14. They're also great tossed with a red sauce and some Parmesan.
The sauce fills up the little bitty shells. :)

But yes, they are excellent for macaroni and cheese. Perfect, in fact.

15. my grandmothers home made egg noodles
she made them every sunday for years. she could tell how they would come out by how humid the sunday morning air was. she told me one day that the noodles were not as good as she used to make because she couldn`t buy the same flour she used on the farm.

16. rigatoni and penne are types of pasta, not types of noodles.
Just to be, you know, a purist in terms of language use and precise communication.

19. If its Italian its not "noodles"! Its "pasta"!
I was raised by Boston Sicilians and calling anything pasta "noodles" would prompt thoughts of sending you to sleep with Luca Brazzi.

23. I know that. My great-grandfather was born in Rome
I was trying to be more inclusive to include things besides Italian pasta. 'Sides I liked the sound of 'Noodles' in the subject line.

20. It depends
Italian: I still love those little wagon wheels, and penne and linguine.

But I love Asian noodles- chow fun noodles, soba and udon noodles, vietnamese noodle soup (Pho- possibly the best comfort food on earth other than my mothers chicken soup and matzoh balls with Kluski noodle!)

24. I hate the way some people obsess over...
the shapes of the damn things.

There's wheat noodles, rice noodles, and egg noodles. Flat or round, thick or thin, with maybe a few other shapes for stuffing or "sauce retention." Sticking an extra spoke in a noodle shaped like a wagon wheel and coming up with new names and special recipes for it drives me crazy. And precisely what the hell is the difference between fettucini and linguini? One tenth of a millimeter? (And what's the point of that wagon wheel thing, anyway?)

I've got maybe 20 pounds of various noodly things sitting around, being unable to pass up a sale on the stuff. Egg noodles or rice noodles rarely get that cheap, so most of it is cheap linguini or thin spaghetti, which I usually use in stir-fry, but throw in soups a lot, too. And noodle salads with the shaped stuff, or a noodle casserole if I have time on my hands and am hopelessly bored.

And a pastafarian curse on anyone who has a problem with me making my suberb lo mein with linguini and calling it a bowl of noodles.

33. Mung Bean Vermicelli and Rotelle (especially the tri-color)
Incidentally- does anyone speak Italian? Do you know how to say "whole-wheat pasta" in Italian? When I go to the supermarket, everything is imported and none of the labels are in English. I thought it was "grano duro" for a while, but now I think that's just durum wheat.
