Have you ever tasted your dog's food?

My curiosity got the best of me. His canned food is salmon- I took a taste. Not that bad. I could probably use it as dip at a party and no one would know!

It looked like refried beans. Whenever my cousin fed her dog, I couldn't help thinking, "Man, that would be great on a burrito".

2. I've always wondered

When they say dog or cat food is new and improved, how do they know? Who tastes it? I mean, dogs or cats can't tell you if their food tastes better.

Just one of those odd things I wonder about from time to time.

3. This bothered me when my son was circumcised and they told

me that he wouldn't feel any pain. Who polled a bunch of newborns on this? how do we know they don't feel pain, when adults who undergo the same procedure have said it's excruciating? :hi:

"they" don't give pets much in the way of post operative meds because animals supposedly aren't as sensitive to pain as we are... how does anyone really know?

15. we have a REALLY good vet here that does give pets pain meds

she's the best vet we've ever had. she rushed up to the clinic one night at 2am after our dog had been shot.

10. This is no ordinary dog food-

he is an older dog on a special diet that costs around $1.50 a can. He loves it. He may actually be eating healthier than I am.

And there are a lot of varieties out there that are made so that pets/owners can have the same dinner. (See the Dick Van Patten line of foods)

But, as a former inveterate backpacker, we used to encourage people to carry at least 2 pounds of a high protein dog kibble instead of trail mix. You aren't as likely to eat the dog food the way you would the trail mix but if you got into a bind, the kibble would keep you going for some time.

The idea of it being dog food would keep you from eating it until you really needed it, but it would still keep you going. Hrm.

14. I bought my dog some vegetarian biscuits

...that had all human grade ingredients, they were like little carob cookies. The packaging said it was safe enough for humans to eat, and that the people who manufactured them would eat them as snacks sometimes. So I had one. Not bad!

on the M&M Mars pet food line there were bosses who actually tasted the stuff. One of the managing owners demanded that if the food wasn't fit for humans, it wasn't fit for their pets. I don't know if they're still doing the "taste test" with the changes over the past few years.

And, some high-end pet food companies insist that they use only human-grade ingredients, not the offal that some of the others use.

And, yes, I have on occasion tasted pet food, but only the stuff that didn't smell wierd. Some of it's not that bad.
