1. Thanks for the link!
I have all these balls of yarn lying around and this would be just the thing!

2. Hey, excellent!
The wonderful book 'Folk Socks' by Nancy Bush (no relation to Chimpy, I hope) has a great pattern for a reproduction of Islamic socks. I knit it once for my dad. I think I'll make another pair for this project!

If you do make something, take and keep photos and we'll post them to DU!

3. I can't say it will be very pretty, like the ones on the site.
I can't do intricate patterns, and I only know one stitch, but I'd love to help all the same! I just have to get Mr. scarlet_owl to set up the scanner for me.

Just curious.

6. Excellent idea.
When I was in college, there was a group on campus that collected knit or crocheted squares--I can't remember if they were all 7 in. or 9 in., but everybody was supposed to make them the same size. Then when they had enough squares they would sew them into a blanket and give it to someone in need.

I will definitely make something as soon as I have my holiday stuff done.

7. We could have a DU afghan
Like you mentioned, with individual squares. Let me think about this some.

8. This is an AWESOME idea
individual granny squares.... and you know, we could send quite a few if we're willing to make more than one square each.

How many of us crochet? I wonder.

I have been making scrap-yarn afghans as gifts this year. I have enough scrap yarn to make 100 of them. Of course, I have nowhere near as much time as I do yarn.

But I'll bet after Christmas, I could throw one together.
