Percocet vs Percodan

Can someone tell me if there is a common ingredient in these pain medications? My doctor prescribed Percocet several years ago after surgery but after about 24 hours, I broke out in weird itchy hives. I dragged my sorry self down to the nurses station to show her my hives and she just shook her head and said "Oh, you poor thing, that's good stuff!", called the doctor and gave me some benedryl.

When I was released from the hospital the next day, the doctor sent me home with a prescription for Perdocan, but after a day or so, I broke out in hives from it too. I called his office and he told me to just take extra strength tylenol (thanks, doc!).

Anyway, I have a procedure coming up and I am still not sure what it was that I was allergic to.

1. I think they both have codeine

But I am not sure. :shrug: Hives are a common reaction to these drugs, btw.

4. That would make sense. My father is allergic to codeine.

2. They're both oxycodone

one has acetaminophen, one aspirin

3. I think you should checking your chart from a few years ago..

6. Tell your doctor about your reaction and ask for a new drug.

The two different pills have the same narcotic ingredient.
