Last night's Sopranos - I rate a 1.5 out 5 stars (**SPOILERS**)
Is it me or is the Sopranos starting to go downhill quickly. I really thought this season would be good with a power struggle for control of the family while Tony was recovering in the hospital. I also thought they had a great storyline with Vito being outed as gay. But did we see either of them in last night's episode? No, we saw the cook and Doogie Howser's best friend along with Chris try to be a hollywood bigwig (and bitch-slapping Lauren Bacall while stealing her goodies bag).

This is probably my biggest complaint about the Sopranos is that there are too many characters to keep track of who they are and why I should give two fucks about them. I think the most significant thing that came of last night's episode was Chris totally falling off of the bandwagon.

With my other favorite HBo shows like "Sex and the City" and "Six Feet Under", the cast was kept to a central core with the side characters all having interactions with at least one main character. And yet most of the night we kept seeing Doogie Howser's best friend interacting with the cook with hardly any of the main core characters interacting with them. It just bored me. The only reason I didn't turn off the TV and go to bed was because I'm totally hooked on "Big Love". That should be on the 9am slot!

I think that they are introducing a new theme for the remainder of the season, and they usually run multiple themes. Something big is going to happen with Artie. Maybe he'll get wacked this season.

I found the scenes with Ben Kingsley and Lauren Bacall, playing themselves in Hollywood, to be just hysterical, with the most outrageous part when Chris in his ski mask decked the 80-year old Bacall. Talk about a game actress.

Chris's obsession with the swag was quite funny, too.

The Sopranos always wanders in its story lines, and has since the first season.

17. I thought the subplot with Artie was GREAT
Benny (and a bunny)--Benny/bunny--is stealing from him. His ultimate revenge? Serving the rabbit to the couple who comes in for a late dinner (while simultaneously getting back to his culinary roots, something essential for him to pull the restaurant out of the doldrums).

Very, very nicely done.

22. I also agree with you.
They are setting us up for something that is going to blow us away.

I have not been disappointed by this show yet...it always delivers!!

2. I would have given it 4/5 stars, but the Lauren Bacall slap raised it to 5
It was a GREAT episode. With the hit going down, there will be hell to pay. Rusty was a made guy and was one of the former boss's top guys. He backed Little Carmine, which was the end for him. Still, the old guys will be pissed about this. Even when a boss wants to kill a made guy, there are things that have to be done. Jonnie Sack went through Tony to avoid doing what needed to be done.

The Christopher falling off the wagon will be huge. When he is into drugs, he makes many mistakes. The credit card thing will be the big thing this year. It is easy to track and will get back to Tony. Also, I still think the three middle eastern guys are either connected to terror or are plants by the FBI to get to the family.

Overall it was great. Tony had a made NY Family guy killed and LAuren Bacall was slapped and robbed, what else could you want.

4. Any time Tony is talking a lot, the show slows down. I liked last night's
show. It moved.

7. The credit card thing will be big
I found it interesting that one of the sellers was an orthodox Jew, who probably had no idea the numbers he was selling would end up with Arabs and probably supporting terrorists.

3. Funny you should say that about too many characters
Edited on Mon Apr-24-06 11:00 AM by SharonRB
I enjoyed last night (but hated when Christopher knocked Lauren Bacall out to steal her goody basket), but I started thinking there are way too many people to keep track of and I'm definitely losing track of a lot of them. I think something very bad is going to happen to Artie before the show ends.

8. i HATE BIG LOVE, eeeewww, i can't belive one woman wanting that putz,
let alone three fighting over him.
i think all three of them wives are the 3 stupidest characters on TV. they do nothing but squabble over him or money. :puke:
okay, i like harry deam stanton and his scary wives, but it just ain't enough.

9. But they aren't fighting over him - they're sharing him
It's better than you think and the storylines are drawing out really well. If anything, I think the show uses polygamy as a way to showcase the crazy things that fundies do in the name of God.

10. i actually like watching the weird little town with roman and
bruce dern and mary kay place everybody in the granny dresses. but i hate the 4 main characters. ick.

c'mon now, they are fighting over his attention, fucking him during the other wives "day", or in the ther wives house, acting depressed when it;s not their day- cheating with him. they are all competing while pretending not to. and if ain't that it's shopping or decorating- they have no life. and it's gross. only in utah culd a guy like that get such action. what a boring fart he is. eeeeew.

15. I like Big Love
I really hate Nicky, though. She's so manipulative. Marjean is immature, but I like her a lot better than Nicky. I like Barb and her "affair" with Bill is great.

I think it took a while to get started, but the plot lines are getting pretty good. At times it reminds me of Twin Peaks -- not as good or as bizarre, but there's something there that reminds me of it.

11. It's you.
LOL..well you asked !
TOO many characters? They've had that many since Season #1.
Allthough you think Big Love should be in the 9 slot-I'm sure the Sopranos Monster ratings have something to do with the batting order.

Finally-David Chase has always "walked-away" from characters for even multiple episodes...nothing new there.

for President. It will focus people's attention on his Mormon religion. IS he a polygamist? :)

21. It was strange but fascinating.
Just when you think you know what the writers are up to, they fool you. I think that's also a reflection of the characters themselves...nobody is who they seem to be.

They've also been showing a lot of irony. The characters lives are so unordinary, yet they are also so mundane. All the fuss about which restaurant to go to happens all the time, BUT having the owner's hand burned in the sauce is not!

I thought last night's episode was a little hit and miss, but mostly hit. I liked Tony trying to convince Artie to see a shrink (she's real good. she's italian.)

25. I loved that episode!
Lauren Bacall being mugged by Christopher, the hit on Rusty and Artie's breakdown was right on the mark. Yeah there's a lot of characters. But this show is known for it's plots and subplots with a number of different characters all at the same time.
