Anyone know about nasal innoculations for cats?
My cats got innoculated against a number of different diseases last Monday morning. I noticed on the record that the vet's office gave me that they were given a "modified live virus." Then, Thursday or Friday they both started getting sneezy. We called the vet back to ask what we should do. They said if they're not better Monday, to bring them in, and they haven't really gotten any better. Smitty's sitting right here next to me, sneezing away constantly.

Anyone know anything about this new type of innoculation? Do they screw it up sometimes? These guys damned well better not have killed my cats with their "modified live viruses." Should I actually bring them back to these quacks?

1. they innoculated through the nose??
I could find nothing on the internet about nasal innoculations for cats.

How long were the kitties at the clinic? Many cats pick up "colds" when at the vet.

2. A lot of people swear by them
because they provide better immunity (some feel) than killed virus injections, and they don't contain some of the ingredients that may sometimes cause vaccine-induced sarcomas in injectables.

My vet doesn't care for the intranasal and still uses the injectables. In her 20 years of practice, she's only seen two cases of vaccine-induced sarcoma. Unfortunately, one of them was one of my cats, who died of it two Christmases ago. :-( Poor little Tristan.

4. There's a good page on different vaccines here:
http://www.avma.org/vafstf/rbbroch.asp

and sneezing following administration of intranasal vaccines is quite common, even expected.

5. Our cats had a bad reaction to the nasal innoculations...
They sneezed, hid under the bed, and were generally spooked for about two weeks.

Because ours are indoor cats, the vet said we could skip most of the shots, but if we feel we want to, he will use the traditional hypodermic next time.

Your cats will be fine, but those "nose shots" are nasty!
