What's your hobby?
When you're not fighting the forces of evil, that is.

Mine is winemaking. The first of the dandelion crop is being harvested as we speak, and I hope to be bottling a bunch of strawberry come July!

And you?

9. Wow! Winemaking! I've tried it but with not too good results. I
could ask you a million questions about that.
How do you know how much sugar? Do you measure by weight or volume? How long do you ferment? Will the yeast always settle out for a clear (not cloudy)wine?

21. Are you able to purchase wine kits?
Or better yet, is there a u-brew (on-premises winemaking establishment) close to you?

It's the easiest way to get your feet wet, and you just take it from there with the from-scratch wines once you're comfortable with how it all works.

In the meantime, here are some good sites to answer questions better than I could hope to. Lots of recipes, too:

http://home.comcast.net/~jimalexander2/
http://www.rjspagnols.com/
http://winemaking.jackkeller.net/
http://www.winepress.us/
http://www.honeyflowfarm.com/homewinemaking.htm
http://winemakermag.com/

Good luck! :hi:

22. Thank you! I'm going to try. I always was fasinated by the
process. I never knew the details, but as everyone knows winemaking has been around a long time. That makes it somewhat a classic skill.
Thanks for the links!

24. Dandelion Wine-- good stuff!
I used to homebrew way back in the day, but gave it up.

Otherwise, making music is my big hobby. I like to sit out on the front stoop of my apartment building and practice my flamenco guitar chops. I usually get a small crowd of neighborhood kids who come by and watch. Sometimes I'll pull out a travel guitar and get one of them to play some tunes with me.

Music is truly an international language, and you can play it without an instrument. It's how I give back to my community. I like to see the smiles on people's faces when I play something they like.

Jeez, I sound like a big sentimental idiot :silly:.

26. My hobby? Nothing so tame....
I build miniature torture devices.

An old obsession from my childhood......

I once had a pet sitter write me a note: "My wife and I love you. We love your pets. But your home is the scariest thing we've ever seen."

Ah well.....

37. I have a few...
Aside from reading and writing, I like to make scrapbooks, prowl antique shops and flea markets for my various vintage collections, and experiment with cooking. Lately we've caught the decorating bug also.

I'd like to become better at sewing and gardening.

My folks made dandelion wine in the 70s - I never did get to taste any. :)
