My dog had two seizures within a few hours
I'm waiting for the vet to open and in the meantime I am spastic. My dog who is a 10 year old German Shepherd has never had a seizure before. I'm so afraid that we are going to have to put her down-- my kids will be devastated. Please say a prayer for PJ.

1. Hugs to PJ..
Has she eaten any vegetation?/ Some plants have toxicity.. Is there an emergency vet clinic near you? Poor baby..I hope she's ok

We had a poodle with epilepsy, but she always had it.. It's got to be scary when it comes out of the blue

3. this happend to my SIL's german
I wish I could remember what was actually wrong, but this was like ten years ago. It had something to do with a parasite I do believe, but I'm not sure. I also wish I could tell you the outcome was good too.

Good luck. I know how scary it is to see your pet go through this. My thoughts are with you today.

8. Good luck
Our little dog Andy had multiple seizures the year before he died. Our vet prescribed phenobarbitol, which of course made him woozy and unresponsive, so we took him off that. Then the vet gave him a dose of prednazone. The idea was that the seizures might be due to an inflammation within the brain, and the prednazone would combat that inflammation, reduce the swelling, and bring his brain activity back to normal. It seems to have worked; he didn't have another seizure for a good six months or so, and it probably added a year to his life. (Since we thought his number was up, we took a vacation that was intended in part to feature him-- driving around Connecticut, staying in a pet-friendly hotel, giving him all the walks he wanted and frequent attention. That also perked him up!)

12. We once adopted a greyhound from the track who had seizures
they were partially controlled by phenobarb for a good number of years, so putting her down may not be necessary yet. As with humans, just keep her down on the ground if she seizures so she doesn't harm herself trying to get up.

prayers for you, the kids and PJ

13. you've prbly got the news by now
lots of dogs suffer from epilepsy. i've had 1. the seizures are usu preventable w/ a daily dose of phenobarbitol. it can cause liver damage over time, but that's usu a LONG time.

there may come a time when the pheno just stops working, though, y you have to be prepared. when they start seizing almost continuously, it's time to ease your friend through.

that cd be years from now, though. my very best wishes for you and esp your doggie!

Our dog Ranger had Vestibular Disease - problem with balance. We thought he was having a seizure and took him to the emergency vet at 3:00 a.m. He was 14 years old at the time. It was very scary as he had never done this before.

Hope it all turns out good.

I didn't even see this update before my post below.

My heart goes out to you. I lost my beloved yellow lab, Jesse, last year and it was very difficult.

You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers today.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

19. Thank you so much
It's so hard to lose a pet. PJ had a sister and she is very sad also. I'm glad we had PJ's companionship for 10 years, she really was a good dog.
