How many here are CPR and first aid certified?
I just renewed my certification for the professional rescuer yesterday and it got me wondering how much of the general public has this type of certification. Personally I feel that CPR and basic first aid techniques are something that everyone should know, unfortunately statistics show that people who take one of these courses a month later will only retain 40% of the knowledge they learned. Even someone with my level of training and who has been certified for as long as I have (about 8 years) will only retain about 80% of what they learned. So I guess what I'm saying is it never hurts to take a refresher course because you never know when these skills will come in handy.

3. My job requires me to have it as well
I couldn't apply for my athletic training certification exam nor could I apply for licensure without it. Fortunately I've never come across a situation where I've had to use these skills but I'd like to think I would be adequately prepared.

Personally having to deal with a cervical spine injury is more common in my profession and probably scares me more

11. certified, used to be an instructor...
I taught quite a few lifeguards in my day...Ellis & Associates, not Red Cross. I cannot stand Red Cross. The class I took recently was RC, and I hated it.

12. As an RN, I too am required to have CPR certification.....
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 02:37 PM by CaliforniaPeggy
Never did the first aid stuff, though....

I think my CPR expires at the end of this year......

I very much doubt that I'll be renewing it....

Certain things you don't forget.....

Oddly enough, I've never used it at work, except when I worked in critical care....

:hi:

Edited to add: I am retired; that's why I won't be renewing!

13. I am required to be certified for both of my jobs
The bonus is that I get paid to take the training (and don't have to pay for it like everybody else).

16. I let mine lapse so I'm not official anymore
However, I'd risk the odds of being sued and use the knowledge in an emergency.:)
