Can anyone recommend a good long distance provider?

I just had one call too many from MCI trying to get me to give them all my phone business. I make virtually no LD calls from my land line so price isn't the main thing. I just don't want to give Worldcom-MCI any more of my money.

Also, if I switch, how do I keep these MCI vultures away?

That way, you have no "provider." Just check to see if your phone company has an agreement to put their charges on your regular phone bill. It is something like 57 cents to connect and 4 cents a minute. :)

3. I use Working Assets

they're a progressively oriented company that donates part of their proceeds to human rights, environmental, etc. causes. Also, the prices are pretty standard and the service is good.

I buy long distance phone cards. I get them for like 2 cents a minute.

Great progressive company, very activist oriented, good prices AND they used to have a promotion where when you get a free pint of Ben & Jerry's every month for a year when you signed up. Can't go wrong witha deal like that!

I've been with them for 12 1/2 years (so they told me) Last month I tried to make my first long distance phone call in years. Turns out some eejit closed my account - a slammer. Working Assets reopened my account. When you set up with your local carrier, you should ask for a "pick freeze" to avoid getting kidnapped by another long distance company.
