My 66 year old Aunt is going to prison for three years....
<snip>
Wanda Fern Russell, age 66, from Allen, was arrested by PCSO Deputies & Noble Police Officers for being a fugitive from justice.

In 2006 Wanda Russell pled guilty to several felony charges in Pontotoc County District Court. The felony fraud cases stem from selling or disposing of encumbered property. As part of her plea agreement, she was ordered to pay victim restitution in the amount of $89,127.00 and she still owes $2,795.51 in bogus checks.
District Judge Thomas Landrith sentenced Wanda Russell to three years in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections at her last court appearance in February 13, 2006. She was to report to the PCSO Jail on March 19,2006 in order to be shipped to the Oklahoma DOC A&R in Lexington, OK.
When Wanda Russell failed to report in for her sentence, PCSO Deputies started to search for her and discovered that she had fled her residence in Allen. PCSO Deputies developed information that Wanda Russell was hiding out at a house in Noble, OK.

She's my mom's sister.
They found her huddled in a bathroom in her daughter's house.
God this actually makes me feel great. I'm not sad for her in the least. This might sound cold of me, but she beat my grandmother and had her scared of her when she lived with her. Grandma was on a fixed income and she would save her change all year and buy us socks for Christmas. You guessed it. The old bag in the picture stole my then 76 year old grandmother's change. (Unfortunately my grandmother passed away in 1992, but it never made the old bag sad.) Apparently felonies run in that part of the family...

is her son.
Don't I have a fun family??!! I'm not ashamed. I've been telling everyone they were worthless for YEARS. Mom had to tell me the other day I was right. Nothing pisses her off more.

3. Speaking of my family
I am actually getting along with my brother a little better and we played a mean prank on my other brother today by telling him he was going to a Chinese military school in Bejing. Yeah we're awful people but it was funny.

7. Amen!
Yes, we had some drunks and some crazy inventors who would go repeatedly bankrupt with their schemes for riches... But nothing at all like that.

5. Part of my family is similarly felonious
and vicious. I can fully understand why you wouldn't be upset by her re-arrest.

12. NEVER judge a book by its cover.
Come on now. "She looks respectable"? Bush (at times) "looks respectable".

My family has its characters- none have served time for it though. We all look respectable too.

9. Duckie, we can't choose our relatives.
I am sorry that your aunt treated your grandmother/her mother so badly...as well as other people. Your reaction doesn't sound cold to me; it sounds realistic.

11. Well you can choose your friends, but
You can't choose your family.

I won't take my wife to my families' reunions. Not my mom's or my dad's side. Those people are nuts, and they make Larry the Cable guy look like a Rhodes scholar.

She's too old to go to prison. It's not correct.

17. If the law applies equally to everyone
I don't see why age is an issue. I presume there are very old people in prison serving life sentences.

25. Who cares?
Makes me feel better. I forgot to mention the judge tried to not throw her in jail. She had chance after chance to quit and pay society back, but she kept on doing what she was doing. She soooo deserves this.

26. Good for you for speaking the truth!
I had to deal with person family member (through first marriage)who hurt others, and this person got nothing but a slap on the wrist for what he did to children. Spent many years trying to get him arrested, but he made it to being a very old man, Senior Citizen of The Year no less. The upshot is he chose to die from gangrene rather than have his leg cut off due to diabetes.

It was a very painful death and I have no remorse about his suffering.

And whenever he is mentioned, I make people know who they are really talking about.

 to you, Duckie! :pals:

27. Holy crap ...

I think this woman wrote back checks at the store I once managed. (It was the first/last stop in Ada on the way from/to Allen.)

I know the name is familiar anyway, just not sure about the face.

Small world.

She's married to a little pig man who wore overalls to my sister's funeral and is just pretty much worthless. His name is Richard.
