40 mpg.
I just bought a new car today that gets 40 mpg.

I traded in an eight year old minivan that got maybe 19 mpg.

So fuck you Shell, and Exxon, and Mobil and all the rest. 40 miles to the gallon, you can kiss my ass.

AND it wasn't an expensive car at ALL. (Not a hybrid. Those suckers need to get more affordable.)

Interesting note: the dealership I went to has sold eighteen of these cars in the past four days alone. They literally cannot keep them on the lot. While I was buying mine, another salesman asked my salesman where the car was I was buying, he had a customer who wanted to see it. My salesman pointed to me and said "she's buying it." They won't get any more in for a few days, but already have people lined up for them. (The one I called about on Sunday was sold four hours before I got there today, but that's ok, I ended up with one I liked better, color-wise.)

For safety and privacy purposes, I'll not mention the make or model, but a lot of the major manufacturers either already have or are coming out with smaller models with better gas mileage (sometimes only a BIT better, but every little bit helps). The Nissan Versa is coming out in the fall, as well as the Honda Fit. There's the Toyota Yaris, the VW Golf, and others. I just searched by the smallest vehicle each manufacturer has, then checked out fuel efficiency and safety and reliability ratings from Consumer Reports.

Seeing as I have no public transporation options and walking is about as feasible as growing wings and flying, especially in the summer, I really had no choice but to get something as fuel-efficient as I could afford.

So again, fuck you, oil companies. You aren't going to be getting as much off of me anymore.

3. hey Bouncy...
haven't seen you in these parts for a while... nice to see you!

sounds like a great little car. Will be in the market for a new one this summer/fall, and I'm reeaaallly curious what my choices will be. Last time I bought a car (2000) all the dealers looked at me like I had two heads when I complained about the low gas mileage on almost every freaking car I looked at. Ended up with a little wagon that gets 30-35mpg. Hubby's car is on the fritz, so we'll be getting the aforementioned new one soon.

Good luck with all those summer grad school hours!

4. Thanks!!!
If you aren't looking until the fall, look at the Nissan Versa or the Toyota Yaris and Scion (well, the latter two are already out). Both look pretty good.

I'm sure the Honda Fit will be nice and seems to have great gas mileage, but it also seems to be marketed toward a pretty young demographic, and for the money, you could just go ahead and get a Corolla.

Good luck on the decision!

9. yeah, your mention of those piqued my interest.
hubby's tall, so we have to make sure whatever we get has enough head room/can accomodate his legs, but whichever one fits him and has 40mpg+ is what we'll get...

7. juuuust heard from a mutual friend a few hours ago...
logged on to resurrect my request for good vibes thread and update.

Howard's fine, though he neglected to put ANY of his friends (including the two who got him to the hospital at 5am for surgery) on the list of approved callers (and/or release of info) at the hospital so it took a while of calling 'round, trying to find a relative of his at home before we knew.

12. I wish I could afford a new car.
Sigh. I guess I'll have to live with 25-30 mpg, depending on usage.

Glad to see you again! :hi:
