Medicine expiration?

Hey, y'all!

Just a quick question. I have some <good> percocet that I have left over from a knee operation I had in May of 1999. Since then, I've keep the pills in the dark in an airtight container.

Is it still safe to use, or should I chuck it?

1. There was an article on expirations in our paper yesterday

The gist was that expirations vary from med to med and to check with a pharmacist on the specifics for each one. After four years, though, they'll probably tell you to chuck them. (Knowing me, though, I would keep them!)

you never know what the ancillary effects of expired meds are. WHo knows, you might see God!

3. Usually there is a "use before" date on the bottle ...

The date I've always seen is one year after the prescription was filled.

Wouldn't hurt to call your pharmacist, but I'm pretty sure the expiration date has passed :-)

4. I wouldn't risk it- especially with percocet

I know it wasn't on his preferred list of drugs, but hell, from the looks of that list he would try anything. And I'll bet he would be willing to pay top dollar too!!
