Good Wednesday Morning, Crew!

:donut::hi:
Welcome to the Hump Day edition of the Early Morning Crew thread! :bounce: Captain Clintmax with you here and I hope everybody had a good day yesterday! We had a lot of fun at the store, opening all the new items we received on Monday so it was a good day for me, and I even got to leave a little early! :woohoo: So, all in all, Tuesday was great! :bounce:

I have figured out how to get a movie on my iPod! I found some highly rated software that converts a DVD to the proper format and saves it to my computer. I can then put it on my iPod very easily! The only down side to the whole thing is that the software costs $35.00. Now I have to decide if I want to spend that much money just to watch a movie on the thing! It seems like a lot to me.

Are you ready to get this day started? I hope so! Because here we go! :bounce:

post! (Don't skip over the one to which I reply though!)

1) Physics good. Thermal Physics easy for me. 1st year uni I learnt in yr 10 at high school as a hobby.

2) Don't worry about or send todays song. Running over megs and I'm not one for lovesongs. I've never been in love. (Or kissed or had a date for that matter)

3) Lots of uni stuff due soon. Including psychology essay. Going goodish.

4) How are you? Hope things good your end.

5) $35 is a lot. Just watch it on your computer.

6) Good to hear about work.

7) We are getting cold weather here. I like that. It got down to 40 F outside so I stayed inside with multiple jumpers.

8) Autumn is nice here.

9) I do not like global warming.

10) I do not like either your politicians, or mine.

11) Science good.

12) In trying to make headway with understanding everything, it is going really well. I now know the root of all evil. Strangely, it is somewhat analagous to money, but not really.

13) I'm going to have tea soon. Rissoles, bread, frozen veges.

14) Goodnight, Good morning.

15) Hope you have a great day at work!

16) My flatmates have all returned from easter holidays, relaxed and refreshed. The atmosphere is pleasant.

17) That is all. There was a lovely rainbow today, and a little rain. I like both. And parsley.

O.K. I'm done. Goodnight.

113. You know what the cool thing is
I got the player kinda cheap. I am member of the so called Payback. When I shop in certain stores I get points for every purchase (depending on the price I pay I get more or less points). And then you can get stuff for the points. All different kind of things. The mp3 player was 6.900 points. I only had a bit over 5000 points. So I gave those and paid 19.90 Euro extra. Now that is a good deal I would say.

125. Harleydad has a Canon SLR.
He has some rather expensive lenses to go with it, so if he EVER gets a digital camera, it'll be the body that will fit those lenses. It's way too expensive, though, and beyond our possiblities also.

I have a Canon Ixus 700, which fits nicely in my pocket. It has higer resolution than my PowerShot S40, but it doesn't take as good pics. Maybe I just haven't learned how to use it yet. The PowerShot takes great pics and seemed small when we got it -- but now it's nicknamed "the tank" because it's HUGE compared to the Ixus.

And almost the same camera. His is an EOS Rebel -- got it in the early 90's. Last time we used it, though, it didn't advance the film correctly. So we might have to get it looked at. We've been using the digital ever since. That all happened when our grandson was born and we took TONS of pics! It was nice not to have to have all that film developed. Still, we should get the camera fixed.

13. Good morning Clint.
:hi:

Sounds like you had some good fun - which is always good.

I have to confess to being a tad bemused about video iPods, surely the screen is too small to see anything properly. But them, I'm not very into films or television - which probably explains it.

Did you notice that there's a thread in honour of one of your Crewmen having passed a milestone?

I'm going to shock you - no classical music on today. I'm listening to Flanders and Swann - they were comic song-writers from the '50s and '60s, including their famous "Hippopotamus Song" - all jolly fun.

26. Hail, TJ!
:hi:
I know what you mean about the small screen...I thought the same thing originally. However, they had Spiderman 2 playing on the display model at the store and I watched it for a minute and the picture quality and sound was fantastic! The small screen wasn't a problem!

I haven't had a chance to check out the other threads yet...so I'll go do that in a minute!

I AM surprised at no classical going on in your workplace! But, hey...comic songs are fun! It's good to have a change once in a while!

54. Well, harleydad got up to go to work.
And he went to the computer to check the weather, like he always does (he doesn't ride the motorcycle in the rain). Then he let Satchmo into the room and Satchmo decided it was breakfast time, not sleep time. So I put him out and Sashka ran in. By that time, harleydad was in the shower, which doesn't usually bother me. But I was mostly awake, so every little sound was noisy. Then, when he was ready to leave, I thought I was home free -- time to sleep. But he made more noise in the kitchen than usual, or so it seemed since I was mostly awake. So I gave up.

Oh, that stinks. But $35 isn't a lot of money in the grand scheme of things (I borrowed that from harleydad).

I guess I have a choice actually...there are a few iPod movies websites out there that cost $35 for a lifetime subscription...I could select which ones I want to watch, and download them to my iPod anytime. They "say" they have thousands of movies available...but you can't see which ones until you spend your money with them. What to do, what to do?

I would spend the $$ on the software. Any subscription site that won't let you know what's available until you pay wouldn't get my money. It seems like they should let you see first and then only allow the download if you subscribe.

never been to a meet-up down here. I really don't have a lot of packing to do, though. The moving company is bringing some boxes over next Monday and I can pack up books, blankets, and other non-fragile things. I'm letting them do the fragile stuff so they can pay if they break it.

So I'm really taking it easy this week. Things are really going to be hectic starting next Tuesday. :scared:

And I'd much rather spend the money on something fun. But we have things we can't move -- like the piano, grandfather clock, etc. They have to build special crates for them and do special things with them. When we move out of the rental into our new house, we'll move the boxes and small things ourselves and hire the movers for the big and/or valuable stuff. Our son-in-law has a truck, so hopefully we won't even have to rent a u-haul.

I know it's been hectic already. But I'm afraid it's going to get WORSE! Aaaarrrgghhh! And I have to find time to see the eye doctor sometime before we leave. Better make it soon in case I need new specs.

119. Upright or grand?
We had an upright that we moved ourselves a few times. Last time, which was when harleydad drove it up to give to harleykid, it almost fell over backwards as they were getting it onto the dolly. (We have tile floors and piano wheels are really bad to roll across it.) Now we have my mom's 100-year-old baby grand. It has to be taken apart to be moved. And it can't be replaced. It took three big men to move it in here. I sure don't want to be the one to drop it on its head.

Well, my specs take about a week. I wear *gasp* bifocals. And they're the no-line, glare-free transitions. All special-order stuff. They cost a small fortune, so I'm hoping I don't need new ones. But if I do, I'll have to give it at least a week and then I'll have to go and sit while they put them in the frames (no can do on new frames this year).

146. You got it!
When my mom was deciding who to give the piano to (she opted for my sister first, who doesn't play ), she told me she would buy me a new piano. But I couldn't find one I could stand the sound of for anything close to what she was willing to pay. I did find a REALLY nice one for $40,000 ... and found out from my piano tuner that it was a bargain at that price since it normally goes for $60,000. So somehow I ended up with Mom's and I really love it. The company that made it doesn't even exist anymore and, coincidentally, it's the same company that made my old upright.

I know ... I just don't feel like calling ... but I will. We have eye care insurance this year, so maybe they'll pay a dollar or two towards it. Besides that, I HAVE to go in order to keep my TLC guarantee (I had LASIK surgery and it's guaranteed for life. Yeah, I know -- why do I wear glasses, then? I have to wear reading glasses and I got tired of the off and on thing. On for reading, off for distance, sunglasses for outside. Pain in the rear. Now I just leave 'em on. The "distance" part is almost no Rx.) OK, I'll call TODAY! Is that soon enough for ya? I bet they can get me in this week. No time like the present!

167. And I do play enough for $900 ...
but not enough for $40,000.

Isn't it funny, though. People will spend $40,000 for a new car and not give it a second thought. They'll sign a loan for the next 5 or 6 years and hope the car outlasts the loan. But that sounds like a lot of money for a piano, which will last several lifetimes and become an heirloom. It's very strange! (And, no, we don't have a $40,000 car ... but I'm sure we've spent more than that on cars during our adult life.)

That's true. I haven't ever spent 40,000 on a car either. I don't need a car like that. My Nissan Sentra is perfect for me!

173. Yes, but even your Nissan Sentra won't last forever.
OK, pretty darn close -- harleykid has a '93 Altima and it's still going strong. Over your lifetime, you will probably buy enough cars to have spent that kind of money. It all occurred to harleydad and me when we looked at the piano. Might be that it's more entertainment than necessity ... although most cars these days certainly contain an element of entertainment.

Well, the piano is no longer available and we have one that's just perfect. Now, to get it moved in one piece ... twice!

And speaking of cars, when are you gonna come down and wash yours? I'm sure it needs it by now.

Harleydad always washes the car BEFORE a long trip. Then he arrives with bugs all over the front of it. Of course, he didn't wash it when he got back.

If you WANT it to rain, just wash the damn car! Works every time. :grr:

Good morning, Sir! I don't want a bunch of movies on it, but it would be nice to have a couple for when I'm on a trip. I haven't purchased a speaker set yet and it didn't come with it, so I'd have to decide which one I'd want.

I work in a furniture/accessories store.

117. G'day Clint - and Hello to everyone !!!
Glad you've got the iPod figured out - I guess the next thing is to imagine if you put movies on it, you can take them with you wherever you go and watch them anytime. Weigh that up against the expense of the software. I don't have an iPod so I can't really suggest any particular course of action.

I'm over my flu bug/virus so it's back to work tomorrow - good thing we have another long weekend coming up. :toast:

Cheers !!! :hi:
