Hawaii Five-O Politically Incorrect??

Some episodes of Hawaii Five-O have content that would definitely be a "no-no" in today's climate. In fact, I'm amazed that some of the things I've heard haven't been chopped out of the syndicated shows! Some examples:

In some episodes (can't recall which right now) McGarrett makes references to Gooks!
In one episode, McGarrett needs an undercover officer for a case. A female officer is suggested as a candidate for the job, and McGarrett blurts out "No way man, NO BROADS!". In other shows, McGarrett sometimes refers to women as dames! Imagine how that would go over today!
In A Distant Thunder, a black officer (undercover) approaches a man and starts giving him some crap. Danno (who is trying to prove his alliance to an Nazi extremist group he is trying to infiltrate) goes to the man's aid and attacks the black officer. As he does this he calls the black man a n****r to his face! In addition, there are several occasions where the term jungle monkey is used in this episode. Overall this episode was a real "ear turner". Did they really say those things on primetime TV?!? (They did).

Yes, some older shows use words that are rude nowadays. Well--they were rude back then. But everybody was supposed to go along with it.

3. I say we should start using "broads" again.

And their legs should be referred to as "gams." And foolish men should be called "jomokes."

5. If I remember the shows correctly all of the racial

slurs you cited are used in a way to characterize a person that would use them as bad. (When Danno is undercover, he has to really pretend to be a Nazi). McGarret uses "gooks" to call out someone else on their racist attitude.

The anti woman references, however, are there.

6. For a really politically incorrect good time, watch 'All in the Family'

There was a thread here on AitF and I swear the poster did not understand that Archie's character was considered an over the top bigot even then, and the art of the series was to make people confront and laugh at silly stereotypes.

I saw a Leave It To Beaver episode a few years back that had me howling in laughter. June and Ward were concerned about the negative influence Beaver's new friend might have on him because the new boy was from a broken home. How scary is THAT?:D
