I saw the movie Libertine yesterday - Rabrrrrrr's review

Fantastic! Johnny Depp deserves at least an oscar nod for this one, as does the film itself. Some really good cinematography, brilliant acting, the story was fantastic... it is everything one could want in a movie: story, visual, acting, and camera use all excellent.

While not quite Citixen Kane, or even Lawrence of Arabia, it's pretty much as close as you can get to true inspired genius without quite managing true inspired genius.

1. good! It sounded like a good film
I love Depp and think he is great in many things that he does, but I was waiting to see what other people thought.

2. Ebert hated it.
But I'd watch home movies of Depp mowing his lawn.

Thanks for the review.

3. Exactly. He's an incredible actor, he's unbelievably gorgeous
and he's a registered shrub-hater. I'll be watching.

6. Depp's performance was fine
However, the plot line was weak, and cinematicaly the whole thing fell apart after the first 15 minutes.

When Depp says at the beginning 'You won't like me." He was right. Ended up not caring about any of the characters and that was flaw of the whole show.

It's an interesting piece but certainly not a 'tour de force' by my standards (full disclosure - I'm a casting director).
