Good Friday Morning, Crew!

:donut::hi:
Welcome to the Friday edition of the Early Morning Crew thread! :bounce: One more work shift and the weekend will be upon us! :woohoo: I hope you have some nice things planned for the upcoming days off! I myself have to work both of those days (such is retail), but that's OK...I'm used to it.

Greekspeak and I have decided it is time to buy a house! I got the process started yesterday in fact, by contacting a realtor and a mortgage broker so I can get pre-qualified! Once that's done (and I should hear something today), we are going to begin looking at houses! :bounce: It's a scary and exciting thing, you know it? :scared: Once I hear back from the mortgage broker, I'm going to my bank to see what kind of rate THEY can give me so I can pick the best rate possible! I'm so nervous! I'll certainly let you know, as the process continues, how things are going. I'm going to be a busy boy for the next month or so it looks like (or I HOPE I am)!

So let's get this day started so it can get over with even that much quicker and we can start our weekend! :bounce:

21. "Werewolves of London"
I am good. See post #11.

Who is Warren Zevon? See:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x5085588

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&searchlink=WARREN|ZEVON&sql=11:4s6gtq9zbu4p~T1

Guess "Werewolves of London" was not a hit in Australia. There is a line in it: "I saw a Werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand, walking through the streets of Soho in the rain. He was looking for a place called Lee Ho Fuc's, for to get a dish of Beef Chow Mein."

I tried to explain that line to my British girlfriend when we came across the restaurant on a visit to London. Guess it wasn't a hit in Britain, either. She is the girlfriend I met up with when I visited Sydney.

32. It may have been a hit here, after all a DU'er almost killed me the other
day for not knowing who errr... 'Al Pacino'/'Al Pacinu' or something was.
The only thing stopping them was that we cannot come into physical contact through the computer.
What did you think of Sydney?

46. I liked it a lot. It was very clean and seemed really safe for a big
city. I may have been missing something, but I was there for a week and that was my overall impression.

It was funny. I showed up on a Sunday morning and was walking around downtown toward the harbor and I thought 'What a dead city this is,' because there was noone at all around and then night came and everything came alive.

I also went to the Blue Mountains and saw the Three Sisters. There was a big storm that night and all the eucalyptus trees were swirling around.

Had to do touristy things, of course.

59. Fair enough, and yes, it is a safe city, except in a few parts.
Second to Canberra, a city so well laid out that it's population was multiplied by 10 with no discernible difference.

But Sydney is nice, especially the universities.

Sydney has quite a few of them, and Usyd and UTS more than 40,000 students each, with quite a few not far behind.

On the other hand - one can't walk into a pub, restaurant, cafe, shop in London without being served by an Australian, so perhaps we're gradually swapping population.

11. End of semester. I will use this weekend to try and get as much of my
grading done as possible, which is due, not this upcoming Monday, but the Monday after that. My final final exams are on Thursday, but if I have everything else done by then (papers, etc.), then I will be able to get them posted that Thursday or Friday and be well-ahead of the game.

In case you haven't been in school in a while, all grades get posted online now, so that you don't have to turn them in in person.

We did have one very interesting moment today.... when talking about scientific reasoning, my lecturer ate 80 sleeping pills on stage.

Impressive huh? He said he regretted spending $20 on them.

Next time for SURE I'll write something. The first time doesn't need anything.)

66. Of course you are excited! (And I'm going to have to guess why)
My guess: The planning part of your brain is going triple batshit bonkers, causing all sorts of other wondiferous effects. Or the... is it the thalamus? Is very near the hypothalamus and the other 2/3 bits of your brain that make you excited, and it's increased activity (It sends the info to the various parts of your brain) and it is sending them a bit over the top as result.

Best guess: You are uncertain of the future but aware that it could lead to large rewards & perils. Resulting dichotomy ignored by brain, it is getting you ready to run!

It'll pass all by itself. If you've gone all the way to stomach butterflies especially, enjoy it because you only get the raw excitement just once! (Well, you get more when you settle a dealt too, but who cares?)

BE excited.... it's a good state to be in! (Provided it is not coupled with anxiety, mania or tigers jumping through your window)

87. Old psychology trick. Which reminds me, I heard the weirdest thing!
You can take a pen, pencil or similar and put it between your teeth for a few hours, (for orientation, just put your palm flat out a little bit in front of your face, and stick your thumb out, and the pen goes in the direction of your thumb) and you'll feel happier! It works to, provided you only do it a few times. (Do it too often and it wuickly wears off). How weird is that! And pushing & pulling stuff and nodding and shaking your head affects whether or not you agree with what you are seeing and hearing!

It sounds pretty ridiculous but it is backed up with repeatable studies, so it works!

How weird is THAT?

70. Different Proms.
These are the B.B.C. Proms.

It's a series of 73 Concerts held daily across the summer, in the Royal Albert Hall - easily the greatest music festival in the world. They get some of the best orchestras and choirs in the world there. The unique feature is that in addition to the usual seats, one can get a standing ticket each day for £5 (under $10) which considering some of the concerts is shockingly cheap.

This year there's tons of Mozart (it being his 250th anniversary), and lots of Shostakovich too (I think it's his centenary) - both of which I enjoy (when I'm in the right mood). :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

12. Good morning Clint!
Oh my, house hunting. So much fun . My word of advice--if you find a place you like be sure to scope out the neighborhood during several times of the day and week before you make an offer. You want to see what you're getting into. (Obnoxious neighbors having basketball parties outside your house every evening, kids running amok through your yard all hours of the day and night, vandalism, etc.) Also, if it's a development in progress be sure to ask what's going in around you. They just might screw you by putting a three-story apartment building or community swimming pool in your backyard!

I got everything out of my bedroom closet. Now my bedroom is a disaster area :P. All I have to do is pack what I can and organize the rest, then put it back into the closet in an orderly fashion.

for the Vietnam Veterans of America. Old clothes, shoes, and sheet sets. It's better than throwing the stuff away and it gets it out of my closet. (I have thown away more than 20 bags of junk though).

I love, love, love your pick for song of the day. Because I believe we CAN change the world -- for the better! We just have to be willing to do what it takes!

Here's something for you: A link to the streaming of the new Neil Young album (including the song "Let's Impeach the President"). It's really good, and well worth the listen.

It is exiting buying your first home. A couple of things I noticed in FL - home insurance has discounts for newer construction, and as for flood insurance - be careful of what zone you choose. We've bought and sold so many houses that I've learned many lessons.

Great news about the house. Once you start the process, I suspect your nervousness will subside. And remember, there are certain things they buye has to disclose to you do have some protection there. Good to hear that you're using a realtor that you can trust. That most definitely is the key.

133. I am too!
I have been for a long time! I used to be a competition dancer. Country/western! Two-step, waltz, swing, line dance...I've done it all! Won several awards doing it too! :bounce:

143. I'm impressed but I'm not surprised!
Country music is about the things I can relate to best.
When kid started singing about "Kill me, I'm a looser " I sorta lost interest in popular tunes.

149. Hi tj!

I was lectured heavily by my son, who is a very organised little boy and was upset that we didn't have "time". Time meaning he couldn't make his bed, eat cereal and get ready in a slow, orderly manner. It really throws him off. But, I do have to say, it was worth it to sleep in this morning. ;)

150. Buy him an alarm-clock.
So he can get up when he wants to ;)

I'm definitely a get up at the very last possible moment, eat breakfast once I'm in work ... sort of person.

151. I would be, if it wasn't for the kids...MrG is horrible about getting up
so I am his alarm clock. My son is used to Mama getting him dressed in the morning while he sleeps. Except, his sister didn't have school today so I didn't have to get him up at 6:15...I won't make that mistake again.
