1. They sure look like em to me
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 05:25 PM by EstimatedProphet
2 questions:

1: Are they hollow? Morels are.
2: Is the bottom of the spongy part directly attached to the base, or does it overlap? Morels are attached there.

and I will take a few for payment for my identification efforts...:)

3. Yes and yes
Only found the 4 in my yard while mowing. They are in a shady part of the yard under evergreen trees.

6. Don't eat those until you are absolutely sure they aren't poisonous.

10. As far as poisonous mushrooms go...
I understand the concern, and you're right. To me they are obviously morels, but I'm not there in person, so it is possible I am wrong (I really gotta say I'm sure I'm not though-the way they look is obvious when you've found a few), so if you are concerned, go here:

15. Yeah, those are obviously morels.
The rule of thumb is not to eat them if you aren't sure, which this poster isn't.

7. One word of advice.
Never ever ever ever verify edible mushroom identification on an anonymous internet message board.

OK, that's several words.

But yes, they sure look like morels to me.

9. I'll find someone tomorrow to verify them
I used to go mushroom picking with my grandfather when I was little but its been many years and I'm not sure anymore about identifiying them myself

12. Be sure to refrigerate them then
Otherwise they may turn into globs overnight.

11. Yummy!
I agree to not depend on any advice given on an internet board - but these are morels! You can hardly go wrong with these - the only others that might look like them you wouldn't touch because of their pungent smell. Good appetite!

17. My guess is puffballs
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 06:43 PM by EstimatedProphet
To tell, cut them down the middle. If they're completely solid inside, they're puffballs. If they have signs of a developing mushroom cap (like you cut through a supermarket mushroom, only the cap comes down and touches the stem) then they are likely Amanitas.

Some puffballs are edible and quite tasty, but don't try without someone showing you the ins and outs-some aren't.

18. Thanks! They appeared in one of the passionflower pots last summer.

I only had the plant outside four days and they popped up again. The temps dropped so now the mushrooms are in my bedroom with my parrot. I think I'll pull the crop and toss it tomorrow before anything happens.
