Anyone here have a Winco store in their town?
One is going in directly across from Costco. Apparently they are a 24hr store.. I'm afraid that will hurt Costco.. Are they comparable? I looked them up online and they are a non-union "employee-owned" operation...but it also said in the blurb that their starting wage is $6 an hour.. Doesn't sound like Calif. wages... The local bowling alley starts people off at $7..

1. They won't be starting anybody at $6 here
The state min wage is $6.75 I think. :)

2. Here's their web site.
http://www.wincofoods.com/

They say they're employee-owned, have employee stock option and pension plans and are sort of semi-unionized. Well, judge for yourself, I guess. They're located in Claifornia, Nevada, and Oregon. I'm in Canada, so have never run across them.

3. They have/had
One up in Sacramento, last i checked(2003). We use to shop there all the time, because they were reasonable, really reasonable. There were always people picketing Winco, but not unions guys(i think) they were picketing stuff like "Winco buys rotten food to sell you", "Winco uses bad beef" stuff like that.

It was reasonable, compared to Albertsons, and the other chain stores there, all the chain stores charged a bunch...Winco was cheaper, and my friends and i were broke, so we shopped there, a bunch....also, they had gallons of Carlos Rossi for five bucks, can't beat it...:)
