A question for the DU Legal types |
|
What is the difference between a plea of guilty and a plea of no contest?
Just curious.

1. I'm no lawyer but if i am not mistaken, a plea of "Nolo Contendre" |
|
means you do not contest the charges against you but you don't admit guilt to them.
If i am wrong, i'm sure there is a legal beagle to correct me.
I have found it interesting that verdicts are always "Guilty" or "Not Guilty".
Never a verdict of "Innocent". The legal difference is remarkable and specific.

7. Why don't we ask O.J. Simpson to explain what that difference is. |

11. A guilty plea may be used as evidence in a subsequent civil trial. |
|
A plea of "no contest" or "nolo contendre" cannot. That's the only practical difference.
Did I win a trip to Disneyland?
