There's a commercial on Giants games on radio that says the Mustang is "America's original muscle car."

This is an out-and-out LIE!

THIS is America's original muscle car:

2. It's a '64 Pontiac GTO
The first muscle car.

Hell, the Mustang wasn't even a muscle car when it first came out a few months later. It was the first of the "pony cars." It didn't achieve muscle-car status until '68 or '69.

4. Dunno
Could be a 326. In '64 you could get 'em with a 326 and a two- or four-barrel carb, or a 389 with a four-barrel or 3x2.

I used to live around the corner from a guy who had a '65 that same color (same as my truck). Love those stacked headlights.

6. There are some who contend Mopar had the first muscle car...
With the Hemi powered 300's and letter cars. I prefer the GTO myself, but it's a valid claim perhaps only offset the price of these Chryslers in the 50's.

7. Would *you* street-race a Chrysler 300?
Yeah, it and the old Buick Roadmaster would do 90 all day, but I woulda sooner drank a Coke with aspirin in it than cruised Main in a mommy's-car boat like that.

And it was the street where the term "muscle car" was born.
