Seattle's Pike Place Market -- DIAL UP WARNING

Went to the Pike Place Market today. Unlike the rest of the days this week, which were warm and sunny, today was cold and rainy, but there was plenty of color and plenty of spring at the market.

1. I went there last summer...

I had always wanted to see the guys throw the fish. It was neat. I wish I hadn't waited til Andy's funeral to see it. :(

13. I was gonna say it was...

the worst day ever...but it has close competition from the day he actually died. I haven't dealt with it all very well, I admit. But I finally feel like I'm starting to claw my way out of the funk I've been in since he passed away. I'd never had a close friend die before and I didn't really know how to process it or cope with it. I've pushed some people away and let others drift out of my life without a fight while I was turned in on myself, and I've gotta start doing something to put things back to rights.

But that's too big a project for tonight. :) I'm headed to bed. Thanks again for posting the lovely pics. They really are wonderful flowers...makes me want to go blow a wad of cash on even more plants for my patio. :)

19. I have wandered the market before, and yes, it's a fun place

We were in a hurry trying to get back to California by 1:00 today so we could get the dog from the kennel, but sadly, we didn't make it in time :(

I totally want to go back up there, and when I do we should go have a coffee or something. :bounce:

I've lived here is 1983 (was born in Tacoma, but spent most of my growing-up years in Oregon), and I still love it. The Market is one of my very favorite places in the city.

I was at the Market for the first time a few springs ago and ADORED it, too! I loved the crazy fish men! I loved the impossibly big flowers and the exceptionally fresh produce. I loved the soup at that little soup booth on the main floor. I love the little stuffed, knitted wool zebra I bought from a progressive store in the lower level, made by African tribal women. I loved the patchwork of scents which changed with every few steps, like fish and just brewed coffee and freshly baked bread and flowers and tobacco and spices and newsprint... I loved the riot of colors in the millions of flowers and vegetables, and the swirl of people constantly moving... I loved the tapestry of music coming from all the different shops as I passed by, and the people chatting over one another and the sellers hawking their wares... such a vibrancy there, such a wonderful energy... can't wait to go back sometime...

A good part of my family used to live in Wa. Several still do. I just want you to know that the bouquets of flowers that are sold there for $10.00 are at least three times the size of those sold in Denver or Cincinnati for the same price. Also you guys have some beautiful food markets, even as far up as Bellingham. Our stores look like dirty little holes in the wall compared to some of those I've visited there!

Washington offers many nice amenities and I really appreciate the pictures!

It's really not "just" an outdoor market. The sights, sounds, smells, and views are wonderful. Have you ever been there? If not, I hope you get the chance to do so at some point, and perhaps you will see why it's a big deal.

He was staring at the brass pig statue, with a weird contemptuous look on his face. And then he was at the fish place, looking at a salmon someone was holding up ... I burst out laughing when I saw the photo, because the fish actually had more lips than he did!
