Asheville, NC restaurants
Man, the state forums move slowly sometimes!

Anyway, Asheville's got some great restaurants, but husband looooove Vietnamese food as well as Korean (but Vietnamese is his favorite). We had a few great places we'd visit when we lived near DC, but now in western NC it hasn't been easy to find a V-nese restaurant and I'd like to surprise him.

Any suggestions?

1. I couldn't remember, but googling says your best bet is Shangri-La Cafe
http://www.shangrilacafe.com/
Apparently, there was a Vietnamese place in the same exact location, but it didn't last a year. I myself always liked the nearby Noodle Shop, owned by the same people as Shangri-La, but I'm not sure how many Vietnamese noodle entrees there might be there, if any. Doc Chey's Noodle down Biltmore Ave a bit is tasty and sparkly as well and self-describes as having a Vietnamese menu http://www.mountainx.com/dining/restaurant.php?id=618. The Thai place in Grove Arcade, Thai Basil, is very nice, too. If you don't mind driving, Pho Noodleville in Greenville is supposed to be good, but this is entirely Internet-derived information; I've never been there nor had even heard of it before making this search. A lot of folks post about it enthusiastically on assorted foodie message boards, though.

3. thanks! we'll give those you mentioned a try....
We've been by Thai Basil a few times and it smelled heavenly so we'll go there sometime. Our little town has one good restaurant and it's Thai, but no Vietnamese for miles and miles and miles.

2. I'm coming to Asheville in two weeks for vacation
so I would like to know some good places to try also. Online there was a food critic that used to write for one of the newspapers. She seemed to know her stuff. She was really high on the pizza/brewhouse. The name alludes me now but I will check on it.
