The original movie. I thought the others sucked, but the first one was awesome. So, there it is. I admit it.

4. Ohhh, The Cutting Edge.
It's one of those strangely endearing movies. I saw the DVD for like $7 one day and couldn't resist picking it up. :D

5. Hats for bats. Keep bats warm.
That Charlie Sheen..."Wild Thing" made some hearts sing, from what I understand.

The first one was a good movie.

He might run like Mays, but he hits like shit.

6. There's a great joyousness in Uecker's voice
when he yells, "The Indians win it! The Indians win it! Oh! My! God! The Indians win it!" It's hard not to empathize with him.

But from a baseball standpoint, that movie is such bullshit. So y'gotta sit back and take it for what it is.

"Up yer butt, Joe-Boo."

7. Alas, you're right--
--about the baseball quality of "Major League"...this got me wondering what the best baseball flick ever was. Probably the best movie ever about baseball was "Pride of the Yankees"...tell me you don't choke up when Coop does his "luckiest man on the face of the earth" bit...the best movie about baseball per se is probably "Eight Men Out", an excellent look at the game on the cusp of the Ruthian Revolution..."Bang the Drum Slowly" comes close on both counts...worst ever is probably "The Babe Ruth Story"--the Bendix one...arggh...

9. I'd have to agree on 'The Babe Ruth Story'
on several counts.

•Bendix looked about 40 at the start of the film.

•Bendix looked about 90 when he tried to do anything athletic.

•A baseball cliché every 29 seconds.

•Almost nothing in it was true, which is a sub-section of counts in itself. Many lies of omission, like his horrible upbringing, his drinking, womanizing and gluttony and his ongoing feud with Lou Gehrig. And the "mystery disease" for which he "bravely" underwent "experimental surgery" to "help others" — it was throat cancer, for chrissakes. :eyes:

Oh, and in his last season, Boston put in a runner for him if he got on base, but he stayed in the game? Uh... baseball has never allowed that.

The best? For pure baseball, probably "Bull Durham." For feel-good, I'd vote for "The Sandlot" because it was set in my era.

10. I loved "The Natural" as a baseball movie.
I think my favorite sports movie might be "Everybody's All-American"

11. Major League
Has some of the greatest lines like "Look at this fuckin' guy" or "Hows your wife and my kids" and my personal favorite "Want me to drag him outta here, kick the shit out of him?" I also get a little teary when the win the pennant, but for full on cry like a teenage girl I have to go with Rudy. Being an irish-catholic kid and a huge Notre Dame fan, I get pretty emotional when he runs on the field.

12. Don't forget this line when Jake goes to Rene Russo's fiance's apt.
Shaking hands...
Fiance: Stay away from her.
Jake: Suck my dick. (as he smiles cordially)

13. I love that movie
but I love sports movies in general.

The best of the bunch (baseball-wise) IMO: The Natural, Eight Men Out and Bull Durham.

The movie that makes me cry the most? Pride of the Yankees. I know grown men who cannot resist wiping away a tear at the big speech.

The closet, makefunofyourfriendsbecausetheyownitbutyouhidethefactthatyouownittoo movie? Surprisingly, it's a newer one. The Rookie.
My friends laugh at it yet they watch it often. It's one of those movies that makes former high school jocks believe that, with the time to train and get back in shape, they too could have a second chance.

15. I answered 'The Rookie' in a 'favorite Disney film' thread
The movie deviated a lot from the book, but they always do that. Mainly, it left out all of Morris' first trip through the minor leagues, when he was a kid. I thought it needed that so people not familiar with his story would have more background, to understand why he was where he was.

Still, when his manager at Durham tells him he's goin' up, and then when he tells his wife... I just lose it. Same thing when "Rudy" gets in the game at Notre Dame, gets the quarterback and gets carried off the field. I blubber like a... well, a blubberer.

I'm just a sucker for beating-the-odds stuff.

16. Rudy makes me cry every time.
I heard him speak a few years back. He received a standing ovation after his speech.
