How a logistical f-up can turn out okay (or how I missed the protest)
So, a fairly new friend of mine and I decided to do the day trip to New York for the protest yesterday.

I'd never been to her house before, and because of this, the day started out on the wrong foot, because I somehow left one page of the directions on how to get there at home, so had to call on the way to find out how to get there.

From there, all went well until we got to New York (other than the fact that we got down there later than we planned) . . we realized after we got there, that both of us had left the print-outs of the info about the protest at home too, but we remembered that it started at 22nd and Broadway, so we went in that direction.

We saw barricades erected around Broadway, and assumed the march was going to come in that direction, but saw nobody, except what appeared to be a huge Sikh celebration with dozens of groups in full regalia marching with bands and such.

Now, although we could have gotten pissed, confused and freaked out by this, we instead decided to say to hell with it, just kind of did a walking tour of Manhattanand went to the Museum of Modern Art.

We had a blast, even though we never found the protest (I know, I know, how the hell could we miss 300,000 people? It's not as hard as it sounds).

It wasn't until we got hom at 2:00 this morning that we discovered we'd gone the wrong direction on Broadway, if we'd gone south, we would have found it eventually, instead, we went north and wound up in the Central Park area.

So yes, we missed the protest, but we still had a wonderful day, learned a hell of a lot about each other and became a lot closer than we ever would have by going to the protest.

Where else can you set out to do one thing, miss it completely, yet still have a wonderful time? I love New York.

:)
