1. Oh, no time at all, because you do nightly backups, right?
:P

5. Hey, I don't do nightly backups either
That's not geekdom - that's being a sysadmin. :P

9. But that is geekery
Pretending that the random collection of letters caused by bashing one's hand against a keyboard (i.e., sysadmin) is an actual word. :P

12. Yes. You'll do one
the day after you have to buy a new hard drive because the old one died.

Just like everybody else does. :D

13. Computers don't like me too much.
Mine and I have a deal: It works correctly for me, and I don't throw it off the balcony. Seems to be working well so far. :D

3. No grieving for the loss of the hard-drive
Potentially eternal grieving for the loss of its contents though - so how many hours of porn videos were saved on there? :P

10. It was my laptop from work.
I knew it was failing and I have been preparing another laptop for a couple of days. Last thing to do was move my stuff. Well all my work stuff was backed up on the network anyway. I had some personal stuff on the hard drive where it wouldn't be backed up because- well, its personal stuff and its my work computer. Its actually database mailing lists and political stuff- nothing I can't replace, but there was a lot of hours of work in there that I have to start over with. Now I am doing it on my home computer instead. There are bad blocks on the hard drive which make the Operating System impossible to boot. Still a chance that I will get it back at work, but it feels like I have already wasted too much time on it.

At work I have every program in the universe, not so at home, so its tempting to do personal stuff on my work laptop that I really shouldn't.

11. You DID have a backup, right?
If so, no biggie. A networked file server is the solution.
