I have jury duty tomorrow. What is the appropriate attire when casting judgement upon another? Is jeans and a sweatshirt ok? Or should I be serious and wear a suit and tie?

I usually get a little dressed up. Decent pants and a nice sweater. Sort of business casual, I guess.

Some judges like to lecture jury members on appropriate dress. such lectures are best if they aren't aimed at YOU.

8. Not usually. You will see the entire gamut at the courthouse.

However, you could get slapped with a contempt citation if you show up with an offensive (I know that's subjective) message on a garment.

Usually the only people in court with a suit and tie on are defendents and attorneys.

DUI defendents usually wear three-piece suits for some reason.

Bring a book and a pillow if you can. Chances are, you'll be sitting on a folding chair in a crowded room for a long, long, long time.

I guess I'll wear business casual and a tie with comfortable shoes. If I get to be on the jury I'll make sure to give you all the details. If any of you DUers are in Dallas, come on down and keep me company. :-)

....you can get in major, major, major trouble for talking about the case before it's completely over and a verdict is rendered.

I've had jury duty four times (and I'm only 25!!!! That danged computer looooooves me, for some reason....), and I recommend you dress for what you want.

Do you want to get on a jury? Dress up slightly -- khakis, dress shirt, and tie.

Do you want to NOT get on a jury? Then wear jeans, sneakers, and a knit pullover or t-shirt with no messages or advertising on it. That makes for a boring experience in the waiting area; however, you'll generally be sent home for good quicker than if you get on a jury. Also, you can bring a couple of pillows and a big fat novel and entertain yourself as best you can.

Jury rooms are notoriously too hot or too cold; dress in layers and bring a jacket.
