In honour of Jean Chretien's last week in office - his greatest quote
Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 11:41 AM by Screaming Lord Byron
"A proof is a proof. What kind of a proof? It's a proof. A proof is a proof. And when you have a good proof, it's because it's proven."

I know JC possibly has a form of speech dyslexia, and of course, English is his second language, but this quote transcends bad English to somewhere zen. It also makes total sense. Chretien made this comment in regard to the search for weapons of mass distraction.

P.S. This is a celebration of Chretien's speech, I'm sure as hell not mocking him. That would be truly low.

4. It's like he's satirizing the nonsensical double-talk Bush gave on Iraq.

12. oh, and don't forget ...
"He is a friend of mine, he is not a moron at all."

A delightful example of a non sequitur -- and arguably, by presenting his answer like that, Jean cleverly implied that Bush IS a moron. (Those lawyers!)

2. I like his comments about Pot
He said he was gonna toke up as soon as he retired.

He does have a very bizarre way of speaking, you are right about that. He also has the Sylvester Stallone immobile half lip thing.

7. It's actually Bells Palsy
During the last election, one of the other candidates made fun of it and lost considerable votes.

8. I like Chretien's ability for plain speaking. This is a good example
I was very careful when posting this. I think this quote is like a zen mantra, and I certainly would never make fun of him.

5. Actually
Donald Rumsfeld has bizarre turns of speech like that. I have heard him make semi-dyslexic comments before in ways to talk around press questions.
It can be amusing to listen to him. I guy turne some of Rumsfeld' statements in to Haiku. There is a book out there somewhere.

6. Do you think it's something to do with them having to edit everything
they say. Chretien is a lawyer, after all.

9. Politicians never want to give straight answers
so they find ways to talk in circles. The Bush administrtaion is perhaps the most clear example of that, but you will find traces of that double talk anywhere there are politicians, laywers, car salesmen, family gatherings etc.
