So far I've re-watched "The Ref," "Home Alone," and "Scrooged."

The 1950 English version with Alistair Sim. Dark, dark, dark. The ending is quite uplifing, though.

I agree about "Bad Santa," probably the smartest, darkest X-Mas movie yet, and truly hilarious. But please don't miss the classic 1964 cult Bad Movie "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians." It must be seen to be believed. Oh, how terrible and bizarre it is! Plus, it's got a young Pia Zadora.

actually is very non-saccharine; the Maureen O'Hara character is determined to teach her daughter that all that Santa nonsense is just that. The little girl (played by Natalie Wood) is very non-cutesy. Even Santa isn't cloying.

14. The Lion In Winter

This IS a Christmas movie,IMO....dysfunctional family gets together for a holiday filled with major-league plotting and some serious "issues". Beautifully acted and filmed,and the dialogue(again,IMHO)is the best in the history of film.

It is a 1940 release in b&w with Fred MacMurray. The screenplay is
by Preston Sturges. I found it pretty honest for a 1940's movie and
not sickly sweet. I never see it run on TV.

Billy Bob Thornton was incredible as was the supporting cast (I hadn't realized that John Ritter had a part in it too). I can't believed how much this movied tickeled me- but OMG!

One of the most frightening and disturbing movies I've ever seen. Was one of the original "slasher" flicks but was pretty much ignored down here since it was a Canadian production. Paved the way for "Halloween" but was much better in my opinion.
