26. Here's my kitten. Hope the pic is not too large

Mia is a cross between a Bengal and a Bengal/Siamese cross. Picture was taken when she was 10 weeks old. She'll be 9 months old - tomorrow ! In the pic she's asleep against Vinnie who'll be 3 in September : he's one of my two Chinchilla Persians .



Cats are real good company. :)

His proper name is Vincenzo but I just call him Vinnie. His coat isn't quite as good as it looks and infact my daughter has been having a de-mat for me this week. He likes lying on the back of the sofa behind my head and when I'm watching TV I can almost drap round me.
The other persian is called Star and she's got an even softer coat. They're classed as silver/blacks as opposed to white.

35. First time I ever saw a Persian cat

I thought "Oh dear - someone trod on its face" ! Then another walked into the room looking the same and I twigged. The ones with the real high nose/eye line are called ultras but I think breeders steer away from purposely encouraging that these days - too high and they can't be entered for competitions. My other one has got a higher nose and a real smoosh face ! All Chinchilla Persians have wonderful eyes which maybe what makes them popular.

of course, I have three cats now...plus I couldn't afford a persian anyway.

40. When you can house one

first of all check out the local cat rescue and then if you blank there find a breeder who's got a female too old to breed - about 5 years old. Ideally you'd need to guarantee the cat would be "house" only - no outside world ! Of four I've had to date only Vinnie <in the picture> should have cost $1250. However, an Italian lady had blown a 50% deposit on him so he cost me half that when he was only 5 months old. The other one, Star, was £90 when she was 5 years old. That was helped by the fact the breeder knew for certain she'd get a good home.
