Clinton Portis To Be Named AFC Offensive Player of the Week
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- For this week, at least, Clinton Portis truly is the heavyweight champion of running backs.

On Wednesday the league will honor his five-touchdown, 218-yard performance by naming him the AFC's Offensive Player of the Week, making him the third Broncos player to be so honored this season. Jake Plummer won the award following the Broncos' win over Oakland on Sept. 22, and Shannon Sharpe earned it with his three-touchdown day against San Diego on Nov. 16.

Portis proceeded to celebrate the huge day for himself and his team by donning a belt that read "World Heavyweight Wrestling Champion" that was presented to him by rapper Pastor Troy.

"Someone felt like I was the best back in the NFL," Portis said. "In order to become the best back in the NFL I had to go out and outperform Priest Holmes. And you saw the stats."

Given the performance -- in which he came just one touchdown short of the league's single-game record for rushing scores set by the Chicago Cardinals' Ernie Nevers in 1929 -- he was entitled.

1. He's already November AFC Player of the month
Good for Portis. I expected this award, and hopefully he'll be the NFL MVP after he eclipses his November rushing yards. He's certainly on his way. 218 last week, and I expect to see a huge day vs Cleveland this weekend with the depleted Cleveland defense.

...Rush will say he's only getting an award because his name is Clinton?

4. Portis had a great game
The stomping of the Chiefs has made the whole week a little easier to take.

Clinton's developing a bit of an ego, I've noticed. Denver hasn't been known for hot dogs (Shannon Sharpe, excepted), I hope he remembers that getting to the playoffs matter more than his stats.

Here's hoping for another big game against the Browns this week.

Then - ugh - Indy and Green Bay on the road.

5. He has always been that way even in Miami
But he has consistently said to the reporters who keep bringing up how well he is doing "I had a great year last year but I sat at home with my yards during playoff time. My main concern is making the playoffs."(paraphrasing) You can see the Press Conference Video Here if you want to listen to his comments, http://www.denverbroncos.com/page.php?id=913&videoID=165 he does have a personality but the impression I get is he is humble and he wants the best for the team. But what do I know? I am not Portis.
