Looking for Butkus

No, not a butt kiss, but Butkus. I have a dear friend looking for video highlights of Dick Butkus for her daughter. I searched for over 3 hours on line, ebay, yahoo auctions, NFL films, the NFL store, Pro Football Hall of Fame store, various and sundry memorabilia sites all to no avail.

Does anybody have any other suggestions or actually have any video that could be copied? I'm not looking for a hand-out, I'd be happy to pay shipping, handling and copying costs.

I know there was a half hour special done by NFL films quite a while ago on Butkus that aired on Halloween and promoted as the "scariest man in football." Gawd, it was awesome, matbe the greatest football player ever.

1. When you tried NFL films

Did you actually contact them? I know they fill requests for professionals (I work in advertising). I'm sure they have the Butkus cut in their vault, but I don't know if they'd make a dub for a general consumer...and if they did, they'd charge you the arm-and-leg pro fees. In any case, if anyone has it, NFL Films does.

5. I wrote them an email

They responded with a phone number to call to order a home entertainment catalog, which I did. I have no idea what will be in it though as they have produced thousands of pieces. Would a half hour halloween special from almost 20 years ago be offered in their catalog?

8. NFL Films keeps EVERYTHING

Believe me, they have it. They were even working on a database where an editor could pick, say, 'Butkus, tackle, Green Bay, rain' and they'd be given timecodes for every bit they have that falls in those categories.

But I digress ;). The catalog probably won't have it, but I thought of a few other ways you might try:

1) Get friendly with either a sports reporter or advertising producer. They could probably get one for you;
2) Pretend you're a freelance writer that's doing research for a piece on Butkus. Tell NFL Films that there's something on the Butkus tape that you need. Who knows? It may work.

4. Butkus

There is a film on DVD called inside the Vault that is a three disc set. It features highlights of Butkus but also others. Don't know if this is close to what you want but hope it helps.

Butkus is in California and I found an email address and wrote him, not word back yet. I am a scorehead from day one. Boers and bernsie are my favs at mid-day.
