1. Saw a DVD Collection today--lots of his movies you never heard of!
He apparently made quite a few before he made it big.

Went with North by Northwest.

5. Frenzy
That is a really, really scary movie. The choice is really tough - I like almost all of them, but Frenzy still gives me the creeps.

6. C'mon, it has to be "To Catch a Thief" -- Cary Grant, Grace Kelly?
Story line & scenery wasn't bad, either!

7. You mean Grace Kelly?
At the risk of being accused of being sexist - yeah, that was scenery. Another great choice.

13. If he had a shot, maybe I do
Not sure about his success rate, and he had money (and I don't), but thanks for a glimmer of hope, anyway. I am at least that good looking!

9. What about "The Birds"?
Not his best work but the one I enjoyed only second to Rear Window.

35. The Birds for me
I have finally seen all the Hitchcock classics, but The Birds remains #1 on my list also. I discover wonderful "new" subleties every time I watch it, and the theme of random attacks from our little feathery friends simply scares me more than evil humans, no matter how terrific the dialogue or plot twists.

14. Gotta have at least ONE vote for "Notorious"...
Ingrid Bergman is wonderful! And Cary Grant is his usual debonair, dapper, etc etc self.

I might like "Rear Window" best, but felt Notorious couldn't go through the night without a vote...

15. One of the hottest movies ever. Bergman and Grant - Whew!
Any younger movie buffs who want to see heat generated between two of the sexiest people ever in film ought to check this one out. Wow! Hint: A great date movie, with a little wine and cheese, on a quiet winter evening. Try it.

19. really tough choice...
he's my favorite director - I love all of them. But I went with Vertigo. It's Hitchcock at the peak of his powers - story wise, visually, camera-work.... It's just stunning.

Edited on Wed Dec-10-03 11:18 PM by RainDog
...although Notorius is also waaaay up there, and The Lady Vanishes. I like Hitchcock in b&w more often than in color, for some reason.

I really, really, prefer The 39 Steps over The Man Who Knew Too Much, for instance.

has more homoerotic overtones than the American version.

Great film.
