2. Both teams sucked
The Gators were disgraceful tonight. Maryland was very impressive in the 1st Half, but played badly in the 2nd.

These preseason rankings don't mean that much. UF wasn't a #1 team before tonight, and they sure as hell aren't now.

3. A quibble--it's not preseason anymore
But I get your point--you can't really say who's number one until well into the season, which we aren't yet.

4. Sorry, I know it's not preseason
My point about the Gators is that they essentially rose by attrition. Teams like Duke, Kansas, and UConn lost, so we rose up in the polls.

UF still has plenty of time to improve. I think they are a Top 10 team, but they have a long way to go before being an elite team. Kentucky has to be favored to win the SEC.

5. There will be a lot of movement for a while
It takes a while for things to sort themselves out.

In the women's game, however, that's another story.....

7. Hurricanes don't mind, either
Especially one who took Maryland +10, as I did.

Actually, there were plenty of ticky-tack calls both ways, late in regulation. But I must admit the worst was a bogus charge call against the Gators, when the Maryland defender clearly jumped before getting hit.

Same thing happened last year, when UF reached #1 then was whacked at home on ESPN the very first game, I think by Kentucky. Still, the Gators are damn good, with a clutch comeback win over Arizona earlier this season.

8. nope, a fair, hard fought game by bot teams
Maryland was rolling in the first half, then Florida fought back in the second , but Marylans barely--barely missed avoiding OT with that last layup that missed. BTW Darryl Strawberry's son DJ plays for the Terps, and he's pretty damn good :)

The Gators will bounce back, it's way, way early for colege hoops, so don't get upset about te #1 ranking right now.
