COnversation I just had with a potential landlord
The conversation went as follows: Imagine this guy's voice being really slow and shakey.

HH: Hello I'm calling about the apartment you have for rent.
LL: Oh yeah
HH: I'm in Vancouver so I was wondering if you could describe it a little more to me please
LL: Well, I thought that ad pretty well explains it all.
HH: Oh it was a nice ad but I can't look at it because I'm not there...is there anything else about it you didn't have in the ad?
LL: Well there's a 14-foot vaulted ceiling, and it's a real nice place, I've had about ten phonecalls already, it's just nobody has the money. (At this point HEyHEY is thinking 'if no-one in that town has $400 a month to spend on an apartment I'm a high roller')

It goes like this for a while until

HH: Is the stove gas or electric
LL: Eh NO no, it's got a separate furnace from the rest of the house.
HH: No I mean the elements on the stove, are they gas or electric?
LL: It's got it's own thermostat and everything. (Rambles on about the values of the place and a gas heating for about five minutes)

HH: All right I'll get my boss to go over there to look at it and I'll call you tomorrow.
LL: I've had lots of phonecalls, but no-one has the money....money talks you see.
HH: Er.... yeah...haha...I know just what you mean.
LL: Lots of people, so your boss is new in town too eh?
HH: Yup he is a new editor...pause...so I'll call ya tom..
LL: Also it's close to the liqour store, if you're interested in that kind of thing.
HH: haha....well I'll talk to you tomorrow then haha

Took 15 freakin minutes...oh boy I sense an adventure begining.

2. Cherish the elderly.
Laughs from them today can quickly turn to tears for them tomorrow.

3. have fun...
...cooking in the furnace!

Talk to some of the other tenants (you can Infospace.com reverse lookup to maybe find phone numbers of other people in the building/neighborhood)

6. oh boy a liquor store?
Who do I make the check out to? The landlord must be an alcoholic, which means he's either forgetful ( a good landlord trait) or a scumbag (an average landlord trait).
