155. Your #8 resonates with me...
as 1. I have had a recurring nightmare, returning every few months or so for the last several years, where I am on a roller coaster looping over the top when the track suddenly ends and I'm about to go plunging into the great beyond whenever I wake up. Freaks me out every time! I wonder what the interpretation of that one could be...

Anyway, I have a quite ordinary life, but will try my best to think of a few more random things about me, hopefully things I haven't discussed before:
2. I collect records. Combined, my dad and I have over 2500 albums and 6,000 singles.
3. I have a permanent slash across my left pointer finger from playing with an Exacto knife in 3rd grade (!)
4. I was the only person in my high school class to win 2 "superlatives". Of course, they both sucked: "Shyest" and "Oddest Couple" (along w/ my ex; we were interracial and live in a hick town... go figure.)
5. I know a lot of obscure trivia regarding the Billboard music charts, especially of sixties/seventies music (artist, record label, peak position on chart, etc.)
6. I once went out during the middle of the night and defaced a giant "Bush Cheney" billboard to become "Bush Cheated" after sElection 2000. It got torn down the next day.
7. I can't roll my tongue or whistle, but- for whatever it's worth, I can put both of my legs behind my head at once.
8. I prefer the taste of non-filtered water to filtered.
9. I love a lot of unpopular artists, including Uriah Heep, Iron Butterfly, and Kasenatz-Katz bubblegum music.
10. Despite living on the southeast Texas/southwest Louisiana border, I have somehow managed to have visited Canada but never been to New Orleans and Galveston, but I plan to change that soon!

So there's a little bit about me...

You go into court and say "I want to be declared this child's legal father". It is a paternity action. These used to be only filed by the mother against the father. My state made it legal for the father to file for his rights, regardless of the mothers wishes..

53. I don't buy into either sex being superior to the other
And the Dianic witches in the Midwest that I've met push the idea that women are better than men (and a few of them suggested castrating men once they got control of the system).

I believe in the equality of the sexes, and putting women at the top of the power structure is as bad as putting men at the top of the power structure. Equality in all things, I do believe.

Also the castration bit really pissed me off, so I tend to not to be that quiet arround them.

(now this only applies to the Dianic witches that I've met in the midwest and shouldn't be seen as a sweeping stereotype. I'm sure different groups are out there. I just had lousy luck finding any that didn't hate men.)

28. Here are my 10 random facts
Edited on Thu Dec-11-03 05:45 PM by LynneSin

  1. Jimmy Carter got me interested in Politics and the democratic party back in 1976 because he was a Peanut Farmer. I figured anyone who grew peanuts to make my favorite food peanutbutter had to be a good guy
  2. I very rarely drink soda. Once when I was about 6 my mother gave me some sprite and I promptly threw up. Although I can hold down my soda, I just don't like drinking it.
  3. The very oldest memory I have was when I was 4 years old. Our local elementary school had served bad Macroroni Salad and all the students (including my brother) came down sick. I remember that day because I was playing in the school playground with a neighboring friend and I was wearing a winter jacket that had Blue & Turquoise swirls in it. I have no other memories until Kindergarten
  4. I've never done an illegal drug in my life. Not that I have any issues against them, I just have never done any. Oddly enough, I find biographies about people who abused drugs to be enjoyable to read and have several in my book collection
  5. I've been a fan of the Cincinnati Reds since 1974. I remember watching a Reds vs. Phillies game with my grandfather and I became a fan of the team ever since. My favorite player has always been Tony Perez and years later I found out we share the same birthday (but not the same year)
  6. The first Album I ever bought was Electric Light Orchestra's "Out of the Blue". It's still one of my favorites and I play it often (now on CD). Second album was Supertramp's "Breakfast in America"
  7. I am a natural blonde and yes, it's blonde all-over
  8. I took an elective class my senior year in college called "Electing the President" This was 1988 and the candidate that I had to report on each week was Dick Gephardt. I really wanted Gary Hart, but so did everyone else. The teacher gave me Dick Gephardt because we both look like we don't have eyebrows (we both have blonde eyebrows that are barely visible)
  9. The First person I ever met from DU was Ramsey at an Emily's List Luncheon in Washington DC. At our table was Skinner and EarlG.
  10. I just recently found out that there is another DUer from my hometown who not only used the same busstop as I did, but use to be our paper boy. He's 10 years younger than me so I really didn't know him in school. If he wants to mention his name he can. Mom says she remembers you!

My parents gave us a set of four books, "The Life Cycle Library". The second volume was all about how a fetus developed. The books went into detail about such burning issues like "Should a girl wear gloves on a date?"

Finally learned about the birds and bees when my brother found my dads extensive pornography collection when I was 10.

74. My 10...
1) I was born in Edmonton, Alberta, to anonymous parents, and then adopted by a couple of people who moved me to London, Ontario, where I now reside.

2) I have cerebral palsy, spastic quadriplegia. (Therefore, it took me 10 years to learn to touch-type.) However, I also have a tested IQ of about 170ish, which makes for some interesting interactions with people who ought to know better.

3) When I was 17 and 18, I went to the National level in Advanced Dressage for the Disabled, and placed fourth and third in Canada. I was not selected to go on to the International championships in London, England, though.

4) I have had at least two articles accepted for publication and then had the pleasure of seeing my name in print denied due to publication fold.

5) Among the people with whom I have had e-mail correspondence since I started using e-mail are: Norman Spinrad (who said my article was "a good piece"!), Winston Smith (the collage artist who did all those Dead Kennedys album covers), Bart from Bartcop.com, and Dr. Gordon Bell (yes, *that* Gordon Bell!).

6) I have a black cat named Nero (I got him with that name), whose fangs are so long they overlap his bottom lip and are visible when looking straight at him. He's also the most ruthlessly affectionate cat I've ever met.

7) My fiance is Jewish, which has given me the excuse to go ahead and start learning Hebrew. Now everyone asks me if I'm going to convert to Judaism. Yesterday, I found out (while reading a website on Judaica, partly for the jokes, and mostly just for shits and giggles) that most converts take a Hebrew name when they convert (I thought, "I have a Hebrew name!"), and that the Hebrew name most female converts take is "Sarah," which is the alternate spelling of my actual first name! I may laugh about that for months.

8) I own approximately 2000 books, periodicals, and other similar items.

9) I have a Master's in Language and Professional Writing from the University of Waterloo (http://www.uwaterloo.ca), class of '99.

10) I really like studying languages, and have taken or self-studied (sometimes some of each) six languages now. I'm fluent in English (of course), functional in French and Spanish, speak enough Japanese to convince someone that we might be able to have a conversation in bad English and worse Japanese, read Yiddish about well enough to get through a simple joke (or listen well enough to pick out a word here and there in an audio file), and read/speak/listen maybe a few hundred Hebrew words, but no verb conjugations yet (I haven't found a good table with the conjugations/declensions written out in full).

And that's me. I could go on in this vein forever, but you're probably already bored. :)

1. I was born in the house where my mother has lived since 1946.

2. I didn't learn to drive until I was 24.

3. I used to have a phobia about wasps but can now share a room with
a wasp without freaking out. It took me years to do it though and
I still hate it if a buzzing insect gets caught up in my hair - just
not as frantic as it used to be!

4. I was a contributory author on an Oracle programming book.

5. I haven't worn a watch for years.

6. I had a Norwegian pen-friend when I was a teenager.

7. I have been present at the birth of all of my children.

8. I have a small scar on my finger where a drill-bit snapped while I
was holding a piece of metal for my brother to drill.

9. I am a quiet, fairly intelligent but not very confident person.
Strangely enough, most people seem to view me as calm, collected,
solid as a rock and with the wisdom of Solomon. If only they saw
it from the inside ...

10. My biggest ambition is to be a good father to my kids and a good
husband to my wife - not the richest, the most powerful, the smartest,
the sexiest or the most perfect ... just one that they wouldn't want
to swap.

151. Thanks!
From time to time I still get too involved with job security, bills,
money, etc., but fortunately, when I chill out a little, I can look
back over some of the less than smooth times and recognise that having
survived these, we can probably weather any future storm too.

Can't remember where I first read this but I've been trying to live
up to it ever since:
"Happiness is not getting what you want; it's wanting what you get."

Well, after spending the end of last week with my youngest son
bringing up blood after an operation on his throat (stayed in hospital
with him while Mrs.Nihil took care of the others) and having several
weakly voiced but so sincere "Thank you Daddy" hugs when he started
to recover, I know where my priorities truly lie.

 back to you too!

1) I own one of the Palm Beach County, Fla. voting machines used in 2000.

8) I can think of at least three occasions when I'd have sex with a girl before she told me her name. Four if you count the girl in Italy who didn't speak English. It's not fun like you'd think.

9) After flunking out of college I met a guy who did adult films and did two shoots for quick cash.

10) Even though my current career pays well, I still pose nude as a side job.
