Poll question: Have you gotten a Flu Shot this year???
Seems the Flu is all the rage in the United States.

I've never gotten a flu shot before but had considered getting one this year. But the day they had them at work I was out of town and I suppose I just slacked off from there.

I almost thought I was getting it this weekend but I took tons of Vitamin C, Alka-Seltzer Cold, Nyquil and some other suggestions from the great folks here at DU (btw - not all at the same time). Seems the worse I got was the sniffles.

So I'm curious - have you gotten a flu shot yet??

2. You can considered the Mist a 'Flu Shot'
Whatever you did to get protected from the Flu

3. I always get one....
there's nothing so embarassing for an epidemiologist as being caught in an epidemic.

yes, I got one - I learned the hard way - nearly died from the 'flu; I mean, it hit me really hard many years ago, and I was in my early 30's.

I get it every year, never later than October. Got it in September this year.

7. This year I chose my own method
I eschewed the shot and developed my own antibodies to fight the virus. Aside from the three days of sweaty high fever, and the two weeks of zero energy to do anything, it worked well. ;)

9. Yes, I got hte Flumist which is supposed to protect against
the A-Fugian strain better than the shot, according to some medical person on ABC News last night. (It's the last night I'll watch ABC because of the BS they pulled with Kucinich and Braun and Sharpton.)

The Flumist vax gave me a snootful of slime and some muscle aches for about 18 hours, though.

Here's a delimma: my kids are 4 and 6. Only the six year is allowed to take FLumist, the other is supposed to have the dead virus (shot). The doctor is out of the shots, but has flumist, but won't give him that, even though it protects better against A-Fugian strain, and he's at greater risk being younger. Such irony!

11. I think you're correct about cross-protection, however
since FluMist is not made with the dead virus (and the shot is), you could shed the virus for 2-3 weeks, and possibly infect someone. Just in case you are around people with compromised immune systems. Good for you, though, for trying to protect your kids and those in their community.

What a kill-joy, buzz-kill, thread-killer. Works every time.

10. my workplace (college) arranged it ...
I guess they don't want us getting sidelined in the middle of the semester! (actually, given how many people we see each day, it makes sense)

My parents in Ontario (in their 70s) also got shots. It's one of the few places that pays for everyone to get immunized, if they want to.

13. I got the flu before I could get the shot and it scared me...
...being immuno-compromised and having the flu is a very, very scary thing. Fortunately my fever stayed fairly low (about 100F) and I shook it off in a couple of weeks.

14. Yeah, I got one. Seems like I always get bronchitis from the flu,
so I usually get one. I've noticed that in the years when I do get the shot, I either don't get the flu, or if I do, it's a much milder case.
