Frontline tonight "From Jesus to Christ"
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/religion/

This FRONTLINE series is an intellectual and visual guide to the new
and controversial historical evidence which challenges familiar
assumptions about the life of Jesus and the epic rise of Christianity.

exerpt from the synopsis

HOUR ONE examines how Judaism and the Roman empire shaped
Jesus' life. Jesus was an ordinary Jewish resident of his time, but
new archaeological findings show that Jesus was probably not
the humble village peasant often portrayed ...

2. I adore this whole series
I've seen it three times now. And I will watch it again this evening. I'm going to get the DVD set if it's out now. Is it? I wish everyone could see it, even if they're not religious.

4. Much of the facts we are fed today were voted upon decades
after Christs death. There are also other questions that have dragged to the surface.

Was Mary Mag a whore or his wife of royal blood line?

Was Peter really the man Jesus wanted to build his church?

Was Jesus more of a 'church is within you' type of guy as opposed to the strict sungod.....er...sunday worshippers of today?

But still the man did something that spread like wild fire, so much so that the other religions were consumed and a the sun worshippers were forced to merge or vanish.

5. Well, sure, the religion spread like a "wild fire"
But that might have had something to do with torture, murders, excommunicaton, and forced conversions.
Maybe....

8. or perhaps
with the fact of the early faith's treatment of women (very beneficial) and many of the liberaland progressive messages of Jesus. Before all of that was perverted by power hungry men

6. Ok by just reading that quotation i found it to be really faulty
"Jesus was an ordinary Jewish resident of his time"

No sorry Jesus was definetly NOT a normal jewish guy.

I don't know how much you know about judaism(if you a jew back me up here), but the whole thing about being a jew is to get a wife/husband and get children atleast by the time Jesus lived.

Now back in these days you married really YOUNG, take Maria she was like 13 when she married Josef. Ok.. a GUY not marrying was REALLY weird.. it was unspoken of.. and Jesus didn't marry at ALL and turned 33. He was probably thought of as being some super gay.

(disclaimer: I'm a christian so if you find this to be stupid just blame it on that I'm a fundie)

7. I think they mean
"ordinary" as in not nobility, just a workaday guy.

9. Excellent series from Frontline
I have the VHS tapes and have watched the series many times. The
discussion of the early Church was especially an eye-opener for me.
