HELP, I found a cat

My apartment complex does have a colony of Feral cats, but this one was definately a pet (no claws). She's (I lifted the tail) is now in my cat free home feasting on Tuna and Fresh Water.

It's cold out - now what do I do with her???

do NOT give her milk if she's an adult. she'll poop all over.

If you CAN'T adopt her, take her to a shelter. Don't make her face all those feral cats that have their claws.

i once had a 'feral' cat. she hung out eating garbage in the cans outside a grocery store next to my apartment. she sneered at the food i left out for her, preferring an independent life, I guess.

Well, one night it got very cold and all of the garbage froze very hard.
she had to swallow her pride and accept my hospitality. she ate my food and came inside.
turned out she was pregnant to boot.
she became fiercely loyal. she would sit on the edge of the bathtub and talk to me while took a bath. her kitties were absolutely beautiful....she was a yellow tabby and her beau must have been some kind of calico.

Calico is a lethal gene in toms.

You never know with cats. I have a solid black cat. She mated with a Manx-pattern gray tabby, or I should say "black tabby" because he was mostly black. The first kitten she delivered was seal-point Siamese.

We have baby pictures; it is pretty humorous to see a black cat, three black kittens and a white one.

5. Post "found" posters

in the complex and on the streetcorners and local grocery store (with a photo or drawing works best).Get a disposable litter box and cat food when you visit the grocery.

If no one claims her and you really don't want her, take her to your local petsmart. They do a great job of adopting out unwanted cats (I applied for one there once, and found out 27 people were ahead of me-and the cat in question was three years old!)

6. Potty

Go to the store and get a litter box and some litter (in the alternative, you might be able to get away with a cardboard box and shredded paper, but it will smell).

Put an ad in the paper or put up some posters...

9. My mother-in-law just found a kitty a few months ago ...

But that one was pregnant and about to have kittens. She gave the mother cat a home and put up an add for the kittens at her vets office. All kitties found good homes :-)

You could try putting notices up if you don't want to keep her yourself. Be careful about putting her in an animal shelter as they may have policies about putting kitties to sleep if they're not adopted in a timely manner ... vet clinics, pet stores, the newspaper ... all good places to put up an add!

Who knows though ... you may be like my mother-in-law and fall in love with the kitty and decide to keep her :-)

10. Update

No owner, and she does have claws. But she's plump and wearing a flea coller which leads me to believe she is someone's pet.

I trapped her into my bathroom while I ran to the local dollar store to buy $8 worth of supplies (the litter box, litter,a few cans of cat food, some toys and treats) but I'm not feeding her anything else tonight since I gave her a can of regular tuna and a slice of cheese. She also has some fresh water.

It's way too cold and windy for her to be outside so I guess we'll just hang out and watch survivor for a bit. I'll let the apartment managers know I have her and put signs up around the place to find her owner on the weekend.

on occasion. Every once in a while I would walk by my cat's litter box and there would be a huge pile of litter OUTSIDE the box. Cats are funny.

I only had to show my cat where the litter box was once, and from then on, he has used it faithfully. You should be okay, especially since it's someone's pet, so it will be familiar with the concept.

i just got 2 kittens, but had to bring the whole litter frrom iowa to WI, but all the rest have homes. last one is stuck at my brother who started it all.
and now i spoted a stray and 4 kittens in the church's shed down the block. it''s cold here as well, so i am hopin to catch them by the weekend.

30. There was a horrible story on the news about a Dog

Someones Dog got out of their yard up in Buffalo Grove the area that I use to live in and the police picked it up. It was a 15 year old Dog and the family were looking for there pet and the Humane Society put it down within 24 hours after they got him in at least that is what they are saying and the family turned up looking for their Dog and it was Dead.
They are suing the Human Society because they broke some kind of a law and I don't know which one it is but I wouldn't trust them and I know that sounds bad.

I've done volunteer work for a local animal shelter, and people can be astonishingly careless about tagging their animals. And neutering them. Older animals are generally unadoptable, which may have been a factor in putting the dog down so quickly.

The fact is, there are many more animals out there than people willing and able to adopt and limited room in the shelters. I saw a pamphlet once that gave estimates about the number of cats out there, how quickly they breed, and how long they live, and every cat lover out there would have to be owning about seven cats at a time just to maintain the status quo, meaning no euthanizing of excess cats. I suppose the numbers for dogs are similar.

You are a kind woman, LynneSin to take in a stray like this.

35. Probably Not but the story brought a tear to my eye

It was so damn sad because they went into the shelter looking for their dog at one point it was alive and the shelter said that they didn't have it when they returned the next day it had been killed.

I use to work with Animals and I know how people dump them. I worked at a groomers who was a vet and people who bring their Dog or Cat in to get groomed and they wouldn't pick it up. Sometimes I hate people for what they do.

If you look at her from above she looks like a Grey tabby, but underneath she's pure white. She's big, but not obese. She likes her tummy rubbed really really gently and she's yet to go potty in the house which has me worried.

Yeah, I'd keep her if I can't find a home for her. But I don't want to name her because I'll get too attached to her and I'll find her owner and have to give her up.

27. Good luck, I think OUR latest arrival is seriously ill...

He was sneezy a little this weekend and tonight he's really congested and not breathing that well. I posted "Found Cat!" posters around town but no takers.

Obviously, some bastard has taken an inside cat with thin fur and dumped them in the great outdoors in December....I can't have a cat and my girlfriend has 3 already that run her ragged with keeping up with the boxes.

The cat variant of the 'you broke it, you bought it' rule is 'you fed it, you now serve it'. I would suggest a trip to the vet, some cuddling on the couch and possibly giving a thought or two to names and cat toys. :P

I've put anything that she could ruin in the utility closet and I should probably do the same thing with my down comforter (it's a bitch to wash). I left a nightlight in the bathroom where her food, water and litter box are all available.

If this cat pees all over the place I may be looking for someone to adopt her. Hopefully she knows better.

32. A note about PetSmart & their weekend adoptions.

(At least in So. Cali. and in the DC area)

PetSmart doesn't run their weekend pet adoption clinics. They give their store space to the local humane societies. That's who brings in the animals and runs the adoption clinics.

Don't take a homeless pet to PetSmart. You'll wind up taking it home again. If you can't give it a home, take it to the humane society.

Ok, the cat I found - she isn't mine.

But I was finishing up some stuff around my place and I couldn't find her. Here she was sitting on the windowsill behind my bed. One of the things I do before I go to bed is pour a glass of water and sit it on the windowsill. She was drinking out of my cup.

Not like she didn't have her own water (which was the same bottled poland springs water I was drinking).

Awwwww......she is kinda cute. I thought Zoso would be a nice name for her. I can pay homage to my favorite band and call her Zoey for her nickname..
