I think it's funny that the singer in a rebel band accepts the ultimate British establishment honorific. Guess we all mellow with age.

2. wouldnt you?
Think about it this way...a rock n roll star, one time bad boy, frontman for one of the best rock n roll bands ever has the chance to further his legacy and stroke that ego that much more by being knighted.

It's not really succumbing or mellowing, its an way for him to push his legacy farther. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I think early on people tend to be more rebellious to get noticed sometimes subconsciously sometimes not...then as that fades they continue to do whatever it takes to remain top of their game.

Just my interpretation.

3. He's from a family of teachers
and said that if he hadn't become a rock star, he'd be teaching also. I saw a program where they shadowed him for a couple of days. Very interesting. He's quite an art lover and talked about the artwork he's collected, his kids, etc. Even showed him recording and had two of his kids singing backup. It was cool seeing him interact with them as a dad.

4. "Queen Mother's little helper..."
Yeah, I know... it'd be funnier if she were still alive...

In a related story... The Beatles, before receiving their MBE's in 1965, retreated to a rest room in Buckingham Palace and smoked a doob before their investiture.
