Anyone see Canadian Bacon?
This is Michael Moore's only foray into fiction and I wanted to check it out.

The general consensus from critics is that it isn't that great of a film but since it was written and directed by Moore I think they could be misguided and have no sense of humor.

Any DUers want to share their reviews of this movie?

4. Yes!
There are so many wonderful moments:

The entire electricity grid for Canada being a mom and pop outfit.

The list of "the secret Canadians among us" and then the shot back to John Candy, open-mouthed in horror. And of course, since he himself is Canadian . . . .

When Honey looks outside her hospital room and sees a snow covered emptiness and an eskimo on a dog sled.

Dan Akroyd as the Canadian cop who insists the grafitti on the stolen truck must be in French as well as English because of the bilingual laws.

I love that movie.

5. It's scary how relevant
the movie is. The U.S. has to decide on an enemy, for political distraction purposes (!), so Canada is chosen in a hilarious elimination process. Rent it. You'll enjoy it. Rip Torn is particularly funny.

7. I've never seen the whole movie
but I've seen parts of it and what I saw was pretty funny. Not as funny as I would have expected from Michael Moore, but there were some great bits.

11. the scene where the mob's throwing rocks at the Canadian family ...
Edited on Fri Dec-12-03 08:27 PM by Lisa
.... is actually kind of scary. When I see the type of hatred being vented against Canada lately -- "Soviet Canuckistan", that thing in the Seattle Times, and of course Fred Phelps -- it makes me wonder whether Moore was trying to warn us of some very nasty possibilities, beyond just ridiculing a certain attitude. (His grandfather was a Canadian.)

I like how the "Canada Desk" for the feds is one guy next to the coffee machine ...
