Dick York or Dick Sargent? We Report, You Decide.
I am referring, of course, to Darrin 1 and Darrin 2 from Bewitched.

Dick York, portrayed Darrin Stephens from 1964-1969

Dick Sargent, portrayed Darrin Stephens from 1969-1972

Now let's get your preferences.

I never noticed that if they married their last name could have been Sargent-York.

10. York
He just had that hyper, frustrated, end-of-his-rope schtick nailed down. Sargent never mastered it.

11. I think that when the do the Bewitched movie, they should
switch Darrins right in the middle without explanations!

Were both York and Sargent gay? Is that why all the marriage jokes?

And why did the first Dick leave?

Oh, and that reminds me of my all time favorite political graffiti, from a bathroom wall, circa 1972: "Don't switch Dick's in the middle of a screw, vote for Nixon in '72"

13. Dick Sargent was gay.
He came out shortly before his death in '94. Dick York was married for about 40 years, IIRC, until his death in '92.

York quit the show because of a severe back injury suffered on the set of a Gary Cooper film called They Came To Cordura. Throughout much of his time on Bewitched, he was in tremendous pain. Eventually, he became addicted to painkillers, and suffered a seizure on the set in 1969. That's when Dick Sargent came in.

York only worked a handful more times afterward, and spent his final years confined to his house, unable to walk and barely able to breathe (he was dying of emphysema). Despite the fact that he was living off of a measly actor's union pension, he worked tirelessly on behalf of a charity he started to help the homeless.

I remember hearing an interview with him where he talked about the work he was doing. It was very moving; he said, "There are no rewards for what you do. You do it because you have to. It's your nature as a human being."

17. What do you think of Will Farrell as Darrin in the "Bewitched" film?
I thought it was a good choice. Second choice might have been Jim Carrey.

12. Um...York.
Does one really need to ASK this question? Darren #2 isn't anyone's preference, unless it's for joke material.

15. I've actually heard people refer to Sargent as their favorite,
and they were serious. I know... shocking.
