Anyone else see "An Inconvienent Truth" this weekend?
I did - loved it. Trying to take a few co-workers to see the movie this week.

Even if only half of the stuff, even one-quarter of the stuff that Al Gore said was accurate - this nation is really being screwed when it comes to global warming. Scary thing is - I think it's pretty much 100% dead-on accurate.

:scared:

1. I saw it a week or two ago
It was really, really good.

The scariest part was when he had to get on that big hydraulic platform to show how much CO2 would be in the atmosphere in another 50 years. That really drove home just how much the temperature might jump over the next half century.

I also liked the ending with the emphasis on the 3 myths; Gore pretty much detroyed all the Republican talking points on the subject.

Highly recommended for any DU'ers who haven't seen it yet.

3. Nope, don't need another reason to kill myself.
I say that to be ironic, of course. Nevertheless, I know about the problem and don't want to be reminded about just how hopeless it is.

5. It was different in that respect. It offered hope at the end, and a way
to achieve it. It was better than End of Suburbia because EoS basically said we're screwed.

6. Here's why I would recommend seeing it
I pretty much new all that Al Gore talked about in the presentation but even still - I enjoyed the movie. And one thing it really nailed home for me wasn't about global warming but just how much I would really love to see Al Gore run in 2008. He should have been President and if he was we might have seen some stalling in the problems we have with Global warming.

So if it's showing in a theater near you - go see it. Because even though the movie only came in 12th for tickets sold - it's still doing very well because it was only in 400 theaters and yet it was competitive with movies in thousands of theaters. And by doing a good showing, hopefully the movie will catch the attentions of those who might not think much about global warming and it also helps encourage more documentaries like this to be made and distributed.

17. Here's a review that basically says the exact opposite about Gore2008
http://www.weatherunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comment.html?entrynum=384&tstamp=200606

-snip-

The excessive details on Al Gore's life make the movie too long, and his insistence on using the movie as something of a campaign ad detracts from its message.

An Inconvenient Truth as a campaign ad

Gore has repeatedly said that he has no intention of running for president again, and that this movie was created as part of his life-long passion to protect the environment. Gore undoubtedly does care very deeply about the planet, but this movie very much looks like a campaign ad. We are shown many scenes of Gore being applauded, Gore traveling the globe to present his slide show, and Gore working to uncover evidence of Republican shenanigans to alter or suppress climate change science. Gore is portrayed as a humble and tireless crusader for good, and if the movie is not intended to promote his political ambitions, it is certainly intended to benefit the Democratic Party. All this gets in the way of the movie's central message.

4. Saw it yesterday. It was basically same old information, but even if you
knew it, it was very well done. I would recommend it. I loved the song at the end of it too

9. I loved the song and I wonder about this.....
...if Melissa Ethridge wrote that song specifically for the movie and it's original, then she could submit that for an Academy Award nomination. I'm sure that the movie will be submitted for documentary, would love to see it get for best song too. Melissa deserves it.

7. The missus and I saw it this weekend
And yes, it is amazing. Global warming explained at such a scientifically sound yet simple level that even a second-grader can get it.

For everyone who is reticent about seeing this movie because they think it's depressing, don't be. I didn't see it as a "gloom and doom" movie at all, more of get-off-your-lazy-a$$es kind of film. I like how Big Al says that most people go from denial straight to despair, when there's a big gap of action in between. He's right.

8. It was awesome
The before-and-after landscape pictures were the most stunning.

If only he could have communicated that personality and sense of humor during the campaign, think of how different the country would be.

11. It doesn't open until this weekend at a theater near me.
And it's a hour-long drive, but I'm going to make it because I want to see the movie. I'm also going to take a few friends with me and hope they learn something.

12. Yes, I did - very well done!
Gore's arguments were well researched and presented. That graph that went back 600,000 years was alarming - the pattern was very similar until our own little modern time frame. And the part about major population centers (including parts of New York - he specifically mentioned the World Trade Center memorial site) being under water should wake people up. I liked how he showed that no peer-reviewed studies argue that we aren't responsible for global warming. The only thing missing was the part that he said on Larry King Live: that 10 years from now, there very well could be no turning back.

The attendance at the theater wasn't bad for a hot Sunday afternoon. I applauded after the movie, as did a couple others.

13. That graph proved that this wasn't cyclical
Too many cynics say this is normal - that every couple thousands of years we have an ice age and that we're just due for another one soon. But what he showed was this was not a normal cycle but a massive elevation that could only mean that things could be much worse. Our planet has survived previous Ice Ages but could we survive it this time if conditions were amplified to a much worse level

14. We want to see it, but missed the preview while we were on vacation.
It's hard to recycle because there are two movies we WILL see this week, plus one theater opening.

We'll have to wait for the DVD.
