I positively LOVE my new DISH network system
We have one of those recordable DVR things that came with it and WOW.. what a difference.. I programmed all my favorite stuff into it and can watch whenever I choose..skips commercials too.. I alwyas would start to watch something and then fall asleep at the end.. Now that problem is solved :)

I am taking the Adelphia crap back today :)

1. Wait 'til it rains
or snows. It will freeze up or go blank at the most crucial time of the movie or program.

All-in-all, I'm happy with it, though.

5. That's why my DirecTV dish is right in front
of my bedroom window.. I can always brush off the snow (as I have done on Monday - twice) Plus, with DirecTV, I get free stuff... don't ask me how. It just doesn't work with Dish.

14. Wise move.
My first dish was at an apartment, and the dish was on the balconey. During really heavy wet snowstorms, I'd lose the picture cause snow would stick to the dish and I'd have to knock it off. When I put up my next dish, I made sure it wasn't up so high I couldn't reach it with a broom!

20. Fellow Coloradans
will appreciate this story: I'm house-sitting a few years back when Ray was making his run for the Cup with the Avs. My in-laws' house sits at about 8K feet, they had the Dish. Long story short, we're watching the last game of that series during a blizzard, and the in-laws had mounted their dish up high on the end of their garage! No ladder, either, so we backed a car halfway out of the garage, and every ten minutes or so one of us had to run out, clamber on top of the car, and swish the snow off the thing!! :eyes:

Yeah, I learned from it, too. Mine now is on the south side of the house, and I can crack the window and reach it without leaning out. ;)

9. At least
with the dish you look outside and see rain, you know there might be a few minutes of fuzzy, then all better. When we had cable it would go out for hours or days for no rhyme or reason. I hated that! And of course, Comcast cable acted like it was a goddamn privledge to have cable, I dumped them for DirecTV. Very happy with them.

16. we have a rather unique problem with our DISH system-
WE live several miles due east of O'Hare Airport, and there is a particular approach pattern that takes aircraft precisely between our dish and the satellite- when a plane passes thru, the picture goes off for a second or two, then comes back on...it can be VERY maddening- but until we move, there's not much we can do about it.

2. What did you get?
When (if) we ever get our house built out on the farm we will no longer have cable and will have to get a dish network of some kind . Is that what it is called? Dish Network?

17. There's a promotion going on now-
you get up up to 4 free receivers(one PVR unit), free installation, and depending on your programming, up to $200 off your bill in the first 3-4 months.

4. I get them in my area with Dish Network......
It depends on a lot of things. If you live out in the sticks and have pretty crappy reception, you can usually get non-local network affiliate stations (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, UPN, WB) for a very small amount each month.

6. We love ours, too
>We have one of those recordable DVR things that came with it and WOW.. what a difference.. I programmed all my favorite stuff into it and can watch whenever I choose.<

We just got a DVR upgrade to our existing DISH receiver. We've had DISH network for over five years now, and we will never, ever go back to cable, no matter how mad we are at Charlie the CEO for not carrying Canadian programming...

We LOVE the DVR already, and wonder how we got along without it!

Our cable would go out routinely for several hours per week. Our DISH Network programming has been out ONCE, for twenty minutes (other than major power failure,) in five years. Since we live outside of Seattle, we've had our fair share of huge rainstorms or snow, and it doesn't cause a problem with our reception.

It's expensive, but if you enjoy watching TV, it's well worth the money.

Julie

13. Ooooh, yeahh!!!! PVR is great!
When I got Dish, I figured, eh, maybe I'll use it occasionally. We use it constantly. Phone rings, pause the TV. Didn't understand what someone said? Back it up. That's the cool part about it. You don't have to plan to record something in advance. If you are watching it, you are recording it.
