I'm so sick of the one / few vs. thousands and "underdog" survives.

Three men, all wanting to kill each other for the gold in a barren graveyard. You could feel the tension in the air.

27. another vote for angel eyes, tuco's and blondie's shootout

This must be viewed in wide screen (letterbox).

In my humble the action really begins when Blondie lights that cannon with his cigar and knocks Tuco off his horse in the cemetery. Then it's fifteen minutes of non-stop action beginning with Tuco running in circles looking for Arch Stanton (died february 14, 1862).

Angel Eyes shows up and then the ultimate showdown as Blondie writes the name of the correct grave on the rock and they take their positions and cue music and the ballet hits his peak.

Tuco was really surprised when he realized that he didn't have any bullets and there was no name on the rock.

Then some comic relief as Blondie says to Tuco, "There are two kind of people in this world, those with loaded guns and those with unloaded guns. You dig."

3. "The Magnificent Seven;" second, "Liberty Valance;" third, "High Noon"

James Coburn didn't want to take the guy out, but he did - with a knife. I vote that number one. Second: Jimmy Stewart (with help from John Wayne) goes up against Lee Marvin in "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance;" third, Gary Cooper goes it alone in "High Noon." A special "heads up" to the conclusion of "An Enemy Of the State" with Will Smith and Gene Hackman, as well.

Peckinpah I've seen in years. And the poor excon that got sucked into the heist got it in the head. That really made me feel bad, even though it was only a movie.

He was trying to go straight and wound up slopping floors in a diner. No wonder he signed on.

they're all boring and repetitive. No one dies (unless they're worthless henchmen who die by the dozens) until final words are exchanged anyway, all very cliche.

followed closely by the Odessa Steps sequence of The Untouchables, and the end of the Wild Bunch.

But I also love Time and Tide's gunfights...So many to choose from.

In fact, I hate all Michael Mann's overblown "man versus his evil alter-ego" crapola, but that heist scene in Heat was visceral! I often wonder if it won/was nominated for an Oscar for sound editing, because it's marvelous.

I also think the flashback jewellery heist scene in Reservoir Dogs is excellent, too.

The best gunfights that I have ever seen are the in the movies The Killer and Hard Boiled. In fact, Hard Boiled holds the record for onscreen deaths at 230. Saving Private Ryan only had 203. The Killer had about 120 deaths. You can look the numbers up for yourself at us.imdb.com
