If you have the flu....
STAY THE FUCK HOME! My boyfriend is coming down with something... he said everybody around him at work is sick.

I went out for bagels today and I heard one employee telling another "You know that flu that's been going around? I've had it the last five days... I feel like shit."

People, people, people.....

If you're sick, stay home!! I don't get these people who are so proud of their perfect attendance records - why spread this disease everywhere you go? Tough it out at home and leave everybody else alone!

1. Sick time = vacation time
Many employers count sick days towards your vacation allotment. Use that up, and any further days off are unpaid.

Blame the system, not the people.

4. Well that's true in some places...
but not all. My bf's place of work has no limit on sick days, as long as they're not abused.

And I'd wager that relatively few people absolutely cannot afford a day or two off work when they're really sick. Many can't, I agree, but not the vast majority.

Yes, some people must work every day. Most people do not. And even then, does it warrant sickening (or perhaps even killing) those around you? I still say stay home.

2. People who handle food
should definitely stay home. Unfortunately they're the ones who can least afford to stay home.

8. Well Put
Yes, most food industry folks simply do not have sick days and wages in the restaruant industry are simply shameful. Many, many folks simply do not have the sick days to use and need the money. It's a lousy system and one that needs to be fixed.

6. Well that remains to be seen....
nobody really knows yet how effective this year's vaccine is. I just read they won't really know for sure until Flu Season is just about over.

I hope you stay well, Mattman - but if you get sick, please stay home. Hang out on DU :)

7. I got my flu shot 15 days ago. I don't have to worry.

And yes, it DOES give cross-protection to the Fujian strain. I won't have anything to worry about except colds this winter.

10. They might not always realize they have it.
For the first 5 or 6 days I thought I had a mild cold, until the fever kicked in. You don't really feel that bad all the time; some days you feel perfectly normal, then it comes back.

Also, it lasts for WEEKS. Most people can't afford to stay home that long.
