NanaSal passed away tonight.
Quiety, peacefully about 10:15pm Eastern time. After suffering for years from Alzheimer's, she's finally at peace. I can see her now, talking, smoking, with 47 bingo cards and her daubers in hand.

I want to personally thank all of you for the kind words and warm wishes a week ago when we first got the news NanaSal's time was nearly over. MamaSal was overwhelmed with emotion when she saw and read what our DU family had written.

MamaSal is flying out tomorrow at 7am and the rest of us will probably follow on Monday or Tuesday. I probably won't be around for about a week, but know all of you are in my thoughts.

With much love and gratitude,

Christian

1. Best wishes to you and your family
It really sucks to see someone you love leave, but being "done with Alzheimers" has to be a blessing of sorts..

5. I too had a grandmother who suffered from Alzheimers
I knew that she had problems remembering her past. However, I tried to value her life and would hear her life story through the eyes of my mother.

When she passed away, I only hoped the best for her: a place in heaven where she could finally be at peace. God bless her soul, and God bless your grandmother's soul.

Cheers
La_Serpiente :-)

Edited on Sun Dec-14-03 03:20 AM by Melodybe
I'm not very good at this, but I hope that your memories of her never fade. I hope that you can find the strength within yourself to get through this difficult time. I hope that her passing will bring your family closer than it has ever been.

Take care of yourself and your family.

Much love to you and yours,
Melody

12. May she rest in peace.
My grandmother also suffered from Alzheimer's for the 12 years prior to her death. There will be new tears, of course, but you know that the worst is over.

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus,
nunc et in hora mortis nostrae.

Gloria Patri,
et Filio,
et Spiritui Sancto.

Sicut erat in principio,
et nunc,
et semper,
et in saecula saeculorum.

Amen.

My thoughts are with you and the family :(

on edit: My grandfather had Alzheimer's. It is really taxing to see someone you love suffer so much from it, for the victim it takes away what they had and replaces it with confusion. My grandfather died not remembering things that had once brought him happiness in earlier times in his life. Nobody should have to go through that.

15. I have an idea...
that God loves a good Bingo game and there's a really good seat at the table for NanaSal. Take comfort that she is at peace and restored to health. Her spirit will always be with you.

My thoughts are with you and the family.

25. So sorry about your grandmother
Mine died at age 100 with her mind and every bodily system failing, but it was still hard to see her go.

(I bet your grandmother is at this moment playing bingo next to my Aunt Esther in that great Bingo Parlor in the Sky!) ;-)

Lux aeterna luceat eam.
