1. I think it is sad

when our economic health is tied solely to consumerism. It wasn't that long ago that economic health was measured in how many goods a country produced and what its trade deficit/surplus was. An economy based on spending is much more fragile, because it changes with the whims of the buying public. Personally, I bet those families who have soldiers over there aren't spending more on Christmas goodies unless they find out their Johnny is marching home soon.

Who knew that this one event could have such immediate certain and incredible ramifications? It seems that Saddam has more influence on the economy, the war, and American politics from a hole in the ground than W does as the sitting President of the United States, commander of the greatest military force ever assembled (thanks Bill), and world leader.
