Today is officially "Goodbye, Chad!" Day in Douglas County, IL, per proclamation of our County Board. It will mark the public demonstration and instruction in our brand-spanking new Opti-Scan voting machines. In response to a massively well-attended public meeting on choosing new voting equipment for the upcoming primary and general election, our County Board unanimously voted to use the more expensive optical-scanner type of machine because it will not merely record votes, but will also leave the much-desired (and neccessary) 'paper trail' of actual ballots, which will be placed into a ballot box once they have been scanned.
I plan to attend one of the demonstrations today, and I urge those of you whose counties or municiplaities have not yet chosen voting equipment to attend meetings where this is discussed and make your preference known--- it DOES makes a difference.
