Damn it, I lost my windows 2k pro cd- key, please help!

I might have mistakenly thrown the sticker out when I first installed it some time ago. I need to install it on my new hard drive, could someone with 2kpro PM please!

4. My husband swears by Belarc Advisor.

It runs a complete analysis on your system (doesn't send the info anywhere but your hard drive) and provides the CD keys for the software. I'm pretty sure it gives the Windows key too. Free download here:

ON EDIT: Just checked, and it does give you the CD key on the analysis.

5. You can usually find it with regedit..

..not sure with Win 2K though.

Check the following key:

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ProductKey

or possibly...

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WINNT\CurrentVersion\ProductKey

8. Just an aside...

I recently had to reinstall Win 98SE, and realised, after reformatting my hard-drive, that I didn't have the key anymore. I called Microsoft, and they just gave me one. They didn't even verify my identity or anything (and they may use caller ID, but I have a new home phone number/area code since I boutht the software in '99).

Seriously, it was as easy as phoning. I guess if it's an 'obsolete' product, they aren't as protective of people copying/bootlegging.
